Gary Yoder's exceptional bird sculptures are displayed in galleries and museums around the world. Sit and enjoy Gary's stories of travel to follow these birds and their habitats, which include Western Maryland.

I rated 3 stars because there is nothing there only a few shops and two restaurants. According to the information posted, the village has not recovered from the storm. However, if you are in the area visiting the Castleman River Bridge State Park, just walk across the bridge to the village to see nice structures and/or to enjoy yourself at the two restaurants.

This lovely little village offers a glimpse into history as the artisans practice their crafts in the way of our forefathers. And, best yet, it's free! If you are looking for unique gifts from the area, this is the place to shop!

We drove by and happened to see a hint of older shops back in the trees so we turned around and stopped. Amongst a small forest are little, rustic cabins and artisan shops. The shops held their own artist including: color pencil artest, metal worker, wooden creations. Outside the woods are a couple additional special shops of foods and crafts. Also is a 3 story older early Amercian home featuring the history of the Yoder Family and early American house and farm furnishings.

We enjoy walking thru the spruce forest and admiring all the craftmanship in the small cabins. Definitely worth a visit!! And nearby is a grist mill. I make a point of buying whole wheat flour when there.

Traditional mountain crafts. The bird carver does intricate work. For example, he carves each vane on each feather. His work is exemplary. I wish I could afford to buy one, and wish I had an appropriate place to display it properly. Other artisans do iron work and quilts.

Loved visiting Spruce Forest. The artisans are varied and interesting. Spent a long time talking to two of them and admiring their work. The little craft cottages are adorable. Enjoyed seeing the Yoder house. Someplace we love to take guests.
