We just fell in love with the Spruce Forest Artisan Village! All the establishments are housed in rustic old log cabins and sell some unique handmade items. It makes for a very lovely shopping experience! Beautiful photos can be snapped around every corner! Will be back!

Artist studios in log cabins that have been moved to this location from elsewhere... Plus the Yoder House (built on site 20 years ago from materials salvaged from other structures), an old school house, a gift shop, a restaurant, a cafe, and an historic bridge right next door.
We went on a Saturday in early June. Only one shop was not yet open for the season. It's fun meeting the artists, seeing them at work, and seeing their final creations.
Highly recommended.

We were here during the off-season but it was nice weather so a bunch of the artisans were around on Friday. Friday and Saturday are definitely the better days to go during the off-season. We had a great time wandering around and learning about the historic buildings, talking to the artisans, and definitely buying more hand-made craft items than we had expected. Everything is super high quality and it’s really fun to ask the artisans about their crafts and the history of the village. The bridge next door is also a good stroll and photo op.

The Penn Alps restaurant next door is also good diner food with generous portions and it supports the artisan village.

The area with the artisan cabins is walkable for senior citizens. The artisans open at the village are posted on a sign. I think the Pottery cabin and Fernwood Soap shop are always open. There is also a quilter, a weaver and iron works. There is a dinner with a gift shop that doesn't look very fancy but has decent food. I couldn't believe a grilled cheese on thick sliced homemade bread could taste so good!
This would be a nice place for a casual fall stroll.
If you like aromatherapy you have to stop into the Fernwood Soap shop!

Gary Yoder's exceptional bird sculptures are displayed in galleries and museums around the world. Sit and enjoy Gary's stories of travel to follow these birds and their habitats, which include Western Maryland.

I rated 3 stars because there is nothing there only a few shops and two restaurants. According to the information posted, the village has not recovered from the storm. However, if you are in the area visiting the Castleman River Bridge State Park, just walk across the bridge to the village to see nice structures and/or to enjoy yourself at the two restaurants.

This lovely little village offers a glimpse into history as the artisans practice their crafts in the way of our forefathers. And, best yet, it's free! If you are looking for unique gifts from the area, this is the place to shop!

We drove by and happened to see a hint of older shops back in the trees so we turned around and stopped. Amongst a small forest are little, rustic cabins and artisan shops. The shops held their own artist including: color pencil artest, metal worker, wooden creations. Outside the woods are a couple additional special shops of foods and crafts. Also is a 3 story older early Amercian home featuring the history of the Yoder Family and early American house and farm furnishings.
