Great beach to relax, listen to the waves, fish, enjoy lunch, kick back. Need those who bring dogs to keep them leashed though. Watching the sunset here is a must do if in the area. Not crowded.

Quiet, peaceful place - beach that dogs are welcomed. Fisherman were fishing off the stones jutting out into ocean. Went during Labor Day and it’s was very nice.

Higbee beach is for the dogs, literally, not for bathing. This is where the locals take their pets so be careful where you walk. Interesting fact, this used to be the nude bathing beach. But since that didn't work out as planned, it has gone to the dogs, LOL. Great place to watch the ocean, fishing, feel the breeze, or watch the ferry coming & going.
Enjoy, Gene H.

Was doing some research, and i was reminded about this "clothing optional" beach.
I haven't been back since 1991.
Back then, it was a family beach, but everyone is naked.
*read some of the other posts, and i guess this beach went downhill. (theft, trash, break ins, etc...etc..).
I grew up in Cape May(1987-1992)....i was 17 when i was there, and left when i was 22
Anyways....i had a great time at the beach.....letting it ALL hang out(so to speak) hahaha.
I have since relocated to an island out in the northwest pacific. Aloha!

We (me, hubby, 2 kids, 2 dogs) went in the evening to relax and fish and saw a beautiful sunset. It was great we are going back tomorrow night.

There's more to this than just the beach on the bay, between Sunset Beach, and the canal, where the Cape May-Lewes Ferry has a terminal. There are trails to walk. Dogs are permitted all year, unlike some of the other beaches which only allow them from October through March. The birding along the trails is pretty good during fall and spring migration in the early morning or late afternoon/early evening.

The parking area is a sand path away from the beach itself. The sand is soft and would be difficult to walk on for someone who can't tolerate moderate exertion. As other reviews mentioned, it's a remote location and your car won't be visible to you from the beach, so use your own judgment regarding the safety of your vehicle. Right next to the parking lot, we saw an overflowing trash containers. Not what you'd want to see, but tolerable, especially after you get to enjoy the peace and beauty of sunset. Definitely a place to escape for couple of hours of solitude. This beach has soft sand with some pebbles washing up, unlike the Sunset beach, which has abundance of pebbles and very coarse sand. Go check out a Sunset there, I would go again in a heartbeat.

After reading the reviews for Higbee Beach, my family and I decided to take our dog for a quick visit. That was a mistake.
It is beyond my comprehension how this beach received the ratings it did.
When we got to the beach, there was trash everywhere, and the smell of the hot garbage permeated the air, attracting swarms of flies.
My family and I will never return to this beach, and I advise anyone reading this review to stay away as well.

This is quiet beach is part of a protected national park, that also boasts birding and hiking trails opportunities. Limited parking helps ensure that it does not crowd easily. The place has an interesting history and a charming atmosphere. People have been nice and dogs are allowed. Sunsets here are beautiful, and you might see schools of dolphins on occasion. After about a 250M walk through pristine woods along a very sandy path the sea opens up, with the calm energy of a large bay. Our experiences here have been wonderful.
If you are looking for big crowds, waves, nearby stores and amenities, a short, sand-less walk to the ocean, or vast parking, this is not the place for you.

Any idea if I can park a small (25ft) rv near there for a few hours? I have been to Cape may tons of times but never here and never in my RV. I am also open to north cape may beach area.
Thank you

You probably could, in the off-season. Higbee Beach has two parking lots, but neither of them are large. One has maybe parking for 6-8 vehicles, and the main one can accommodate maybe 20 cars/SUVs/pickups, if people don't hog up too much space. You'd need to park parallel to the perimeter, but taking up several spaces really shouldn't be a problem off-season. Might be a bit tight getting turned around or backing out, to leave, but I've never seen a sign prohibiting RVs.
Is it legal for a person to spend the night on the beach with a tent provided they have no campfire

I'm curious if nudity is allowed still, and if so, is the area pretty clearly defined?

I'm excited to hear that this beach is dog friendly. Is it dog friendly all year long? I'm looking for a beach that I can sit out and enjoy during the day with my dogs during July and August and not be restricted to off hours of the off season. Thanks!
