We were fortunate enough that the peak fall colors fell on our travel weekend. Beautiful hiking, such a great workout and very much worth the views at the top!

5 miles to the summit by way of gradual inclines, 4k ft above sea level, nice views all around, there are shorter trails to the top, consult your map

I have probably Hiked Slide Mountain more than a dozen times since the mid-1960s when I first went there with my dad. I was six years old at the time, and returned several times into my 30s. A few years ago, after a quarter-century hiatus I returned with my own teenage children. Sadly, I must agree with some of the reviewers here who expressed their disappointment over the overgrown trees which now obstruct much of the view from the summit. While a lot can still be seen between the conifers, The limitations which now restrict the vistas are annoying. While the actual summit was covered in trees even when I was a kid, I can still remember seeing at least a 180-degree view of the Catskill High Peaks, with Cornell and Wittenberg Mountains in the foreground and the Ashokan Reservoir as a beautiful centerpiece.
I don't know why the DEC has allowed this condition to evolve. Perhaps it is due merely to budget cuts. But I wonder if it might be because of PC environmentalism gone amok. Whatever the reason(s), I don't think having the forest service take the tops off a few dozen trees would adversely affect the environment. Or, dare I suggest the obvious? Perhaps erecting a modest 40-50 foot observation tower (as existed until the late 1960s) would make the hike more rewarding. It would probably make the Slide Mountain popular once again. I can remember getting the top and meeting a dozen or more folks, taking in the view and sharing the experience. For me, this was as much a part of the experience as the hike itself.
That said, the modest 2.8 mile hike is STILL worth the effort. Even with having to look through gaps between the trees, the view is still magnificent from Burrough's Rock. And Slide Mountain is still one of my favorite places, at least in my native New York State.

I summited Slide from the west (the easy route) in mid-November 2017. The trail is well marked ad easy to follow. The slop is never very steep, and I did much of the day at a run. Beautiful views on this fairly accessible hike.

Definitely not for the novice cyclist. The route begins at the big Indian turn and goes for 20 miles. This is the highest elevation in the area at about 2800+ feet. The top of the mountain is the hardest, is relentless and while it's only a short distance there is not break. The hardest part is concentrated with peak after peak....... The scenery is stunning...... if you are going to do this road, take the whole 20 miles.

Tallest mountain in the Catskills. But a real hike, so don't try it unless you're in shape. Take the "easy" route up from Route 47. Make it a loop by hooking into the Curtis Ormsbee trail either on the way up or down. Great views from the CO. For a real challenge hike there via the trail over over Wittenberg and Cornell Mtns for a 7 mile and + 2500' trip up. Then backtrack or hike down to Rt 47 to close the loop (10 Miles total.)

Many of our family members and friends stayed here for our wedding weekend at Full Moon resort. They were pleased with the accommodations and the location is super close to Full Moon.

I'm glad I did this hike since it is the tallest in Catskills. I was disappointed with two long very rocky sections that are straight up. I understand that hiking is going up and trails will have rocks but one section looked like a rock slide (hence the name?) and climbing through the rocks got old. Also, made it not fun to descend and I'm surprised no one in my group sprained an ankle or fell.
When you get the top the view isn't as great as you think since the trees are tall and block a lot of the view. It was still nice though and we sat on the rocks eating lunch and resting. As you get closer to the top there are two or three breaks in the trees where you do get a nice view. They are small though so other hikers will be there. Glad I've done it, wouldn't do it again.

Catskills are made for hiking and offer very many great trails everywhere. This one will lead you to the highest peak in the Catskills, with several outstanding viewpoints. It is a loop trail 6.3 mile. Recommended.

Quick answer yes
Qualifiers
1. 10 years old or above to summit
2. The hike is a bit rigorous but not extreme
3. There are shorter and longer parts of the trail that can be used to summit, you can always do part of a trail for younger kids and not summit. It is a very beautiful trail.
4. Carry all of your own water, energy bars and rain jacket.
The group that I hiked with ranged in age from 26-80 with experience level of zero to very experienced. All had a great time, the 80 year old man was feeling a bit strained after 10 miles and elevation gain of 2k feet. No technical equipment needed, the trail can be done with an aggressive pair of running shoes
(Heavy tread)

Has anyone ever seen a bear on the trail? None of the reviews mention it.
Escrita el 10 de abril de 2019
There are bear there for sure but they prefer avoiding people. The worst time to hike is the early spring when they come out of hibernation, are hungry, and have cubs. If you’re that concerned then don’t come then and if there aren’t many people hiking then just make noise.
