Beautiful Waterfall
sept. de 2021
Kaaterskill Falls is a beautiful 200-foot waterfall in two sections. Previously, you could park on Route 23A to access the falls, but that parking area has been closed and walking on the narrow highway is dangerous and illegal. The best parking for the falls is at the end of Laurel House Road. An short, easy gravel trail leads to an overlook with a nice view of the upper drop. To see the rest, continue on the trail across the bridge at the top of the falls and follow the steeper trail down to the base. Here you can see both drops and get close to the base. There is also a side path that goes to the base of the upper drop. Overall, a fantastic waterfall and a must-visit if in the area.

beautiful waterfall in the Catskills

Loverly waterfall; hard to find parking, but beautiful view from the observation deck (really easy to get to) and from the bottom (harder to get to). Worth the trip.

Nice Area to Hike
sept. de 2021
Kaaterskill Falls is a nice area to hike. There is a free parking area at the end of Laurel Road. If one is interested in simply seeing the falls, from the parking lot take a short hike to the viewing platform. There are other trails that will take one through wooded areas and to the lower falls. Some areas are rather rough with rocks and roots along the path. I suggest wearing sensible shoes, and staying on the marked trails to stay safe. There were portable toilets located near the parking area.

Spectacular vistas

We took a longer trail to see Kaaterskill Falls, one of the most popular attractions in the Catskills.

We parked at the Mountain Top Historical Society, paid $20, and walked on a wide flat trail (basically, an old railroad track) almost all the way to the incredible viewing platform. There is a parking lot 300ft away from the platform but it is hard to find a parking spot there. Unfortunately, heavy gray fog didn’t allow us to enjoy Kaaterskill Falls in full, but we did feel its power. We would have loved to hike all the way to the bottom of the Falls but we were running out of time and the trail was muddy and slippery. Wearing hiking shoes is a must on this trail.

Worth It!
ago. de 2021 • Familia
It was crowded but I think it is absurd for people to expect anything else, it’s a popular tourist destination; it is definitely worth seeing so obviously many people want to see it. The parking is free but does require some patience, I think it’s better to wait in your air conditioned car for a spot near the trail than to pay for parking at the top, walk down the road, and than have to walk back up the road to your car after doing the trail that is also quite steep. We arrived around 1pm and were parked in the free parking near the trailhead by 1:25, so we waited but not that long and after doing the trail which is pretty physically strenuous we were thankful to not have to walk all the way back up the road. It was an incredible sight to behold despite the crowd and the walk was an adventure!

When I say we watched every step on the path as we walked, I mean EVERY STEP ... But very manageable. And that view next to the waterfall...stunning!

Towering Kaaterskill Falls
abr. de 2021 • Parejas
Route 23A is one twisting and turning scenic drive. It passes close to the Bastion Falls on the way to the state parking lots. Walk the Yellow trails to the bridge coming close up to the overhelming 2-drop Kaaterskill Falls.

Advise a walking stick and footwear to make the trek over rocks and branches.

High and beautiful waterfalls viewed from the scenic overlooking platform or hiking to the top and then to the bottom.

Listen to the peaceful sounds of the cascading waterfalls while song birds sing high in the trees. Caught a glimpse of a butterfly and a rainbow with video.

Continue drive on Rt 23A to Main Street in Tannersville for shopping and lunch.

A Natural Highlight
abr. de 2021
We hiked to the falls via the Rail Trail. It was an icy walk but worth it. The falls are magnificent, one of the natural wonders of the region. We didn't try the hike down to the base of the falls. We had already walked two miles to get there and the step climb down didn't seem worth the risk as the steps were both muddy and icy. Perhaps on a dry day in the summer...

Slippery and icy in the worst places....
mar. de 2021
The beginning part of the walk from the parking lot to the Upper Fall platform viewing area was perfectly fine. However, as you venture to the mid-falls viewing area, it gets a bit tricky in the winter. Part of the rock stairs leading down to this area can be very icy. There are no railings, you can fall straight down the side of the hill. There are official park warning signs that people have died on this particular stretch of trail. I slipped an fell on a spot that was covered in a fair about of ice. It is hard to see the ice as the ice was melting and mixed in with mud. It was bit too much for me, so after fell, I decided it wasn't worth it. So, my wife and daughter went ahead and I slowly turned back and walked up hill again. In the Spring, Summer or Fall, the walk down the mid-falls should be fine and not nearly as dangerous if there was no ice on the stairs.
