We loved our visit to this museum
The volunteer who personalised our experience was fantastic. Thanks Gaye.
Your welcome upon our arrival made our 2 hours seem very special.
Great displays. History. War info. Indigenous history
So well set up.
Gaye also pointed out other things to do in Batchelor.
Much appreciated.

We made a stop on our way to Litchfield National Park, Batchelor’s claim to fame is that it was named one of Australia’s most tidy towns in 2000. It has a museum, a World War II Memorial, and lots of hanging tree bats. Something agitated the bats, and they began chirping and flying around the trees. The museum was mot opened when we were there but we were able to look at other things in the park. A weathered sign explained how and why it is known as the beginning of the Rum Jungle. The Rum Jungle is the name given to Australia’s first large-scale uranium mine. During the period from 1954 to 1971, one-third of the uranium was exported for nuclear weapons during the Cold War. When it closed, it left behind an extensively polluted river. There is a sign near the Batchelor General Store explaining the Rum Jungle.

There is a lot of reading and you can watch a dvd on the Bombing if Darwin plus there were other tv showing slide show on how life was when there was uranium mining and other early history.
It was very interesting especially the dvd on the locals who was still in Darwin after the bombing
Easily spend over 2 hours to read and watch the dvds
The history of retaining the buildings was also fascinating.
It’s a pity that it was cash only as I would have bought a book plus the dvd but only had the $5 cash entrance fee. At $30 roughly each it would have been a sale if there had been eftpos

An in depth, informative collection of events in Batchelor’s history. $5 goes a long way to learning a lot more about the town that is being visited.

Darwin local..included in tour for the day.
I had never heard of the museum!
Could have spent hours here.
Great information on the WW 2 and the top end involvement and great information on the old mines .
Photos , some memorabilia and a great video which I only managed to see 15 minutes of
Found the perfect place for quite a few friends to spend time.
I too will be returning to watch the remainder of video and to take more in
Run by volunteers...
Little coffee shop , icecreams and 2nd hand books for sale.
Totally worth a stop off

A great little museum that tells some stories about Batchelor. A nice stop on the way to or from Litchfield. Good to see such civic pride in a small town, Batchelor is a very green and well maintained spot. Ideal rest place.
