Came here yesterday when they had a war weekend on, which was good. There were lots of military vehicles to see and stalls to look around.It was £8 entry for 2 of us, which I thought was good value (the upkeep for this place must be expensive).
I feel that if the war weekend wasn't on we could have done it all in under 2 hours. The signal boxes and APT was great but that's really it.
Crewe could be a real train enthusiast dream if someone had the right vision, with Crewe heritage there and locomotive services on the other side of the road with it's abandoned platforms and heritage fleet. Don't expect too much, it is what it is.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit on English Heritage open day. The only thing I might suggest would be to have information boards on the locomotives giving their technical details and history. Everything else was top notch.

Great place to visit. Lots of information to read & trains to walk on and round. Fascinating to watch the mainline trains arriving and departing Crewe station from the viewing platform. Staff/volunteers were friendly & helpful when asked questions.

Excellent! Very friendly and kind people who help to run it. Our grandson loved it when the trains that came past beeped him when he waved to to them!

Friendly staff and very hands on for kids and adults to enjoy! A great place to go to for the family and the staff made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend!

ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING BEST PLACE I HAVE BEEN IN CREWE. ALL THE VOLUNTEERS ARE GOOD SOME FUNNY. THE MINUTURE TRAIN IS VERY VERY GOOD. PRICES ARE PERFECT TO PAY TO GET IN. GOOD TO ALLOW DOGS ON LEADS TO. NAMING NO NAMES THE MANAGER IS FANTASTIC TO VERY POLITE VERY WELL MANERED. THANK YOU HERITAGE CENTRE. JAMIE

That was splendid!
A lovely day, lots of train stuff, and a lovely vibe... volunteers are friendly, and I can't recommend the mini railway ride enough. Don't worry about it being g childish... just do it!

Crewe Heritage Centre is located North of Crewe railway station on the land between the lines to Chester and Warrington. The best way to find it is to head for Tesco and it is behind the superstore. There is limited parking for the Heritage Centre but it was all taken. You can park in the Tesco car park but check the restrictions on how long you can stay there and if you have to make any purchases.
The centre has a big collection of former railway locomotives including the Advanced Passenger Train which you can have a look around. I really enjoyed this seeing the seating and the buffet car complete with refreshments from the time.
As well as locomotives there is also a former Manchester Metrolink tram which up until a few years ago was running in Manchester.
Exeter West signal box is available for you to have a look round as well as Crewe signal box which on the day I visited was operational running a "timetable". It was really interesting to see how the signalboxes operated and give you an idea of how busy these would have been.
There is a miniature railway and also a gift shop for anyone who wants any railway related souvenirs.
Inside the main building you will learn alot about Crewe and how it came to be as well as all the other things that go on in the town. There are also some impressive model railway layouts.
Highly recommended if you want to learn more about the town or are a railway fan.

I visited here with my mum, as she was born and brought up in Crewe. The railway was a big part of her family, as my great grandfather was a steam train driver here. We loved the museum and it held lots of memories for my mum.
Unlike previously stated in someone’s review there is somewhere to get a drink and snack and there is a little shop.
This place has some informative volunteers who are welcoming and happy to chat. Nice little activities set out for children.
The signal box was amazing and the displays informative.
Thank you to all that support this gem of a place.

Went for a visit in expectation to see a lot of old trains, class 37 amongst others. There are about 5 trains there, 3 miniature rail layout, and a sit on train that takes you around the place which you have to change seats 3 times each journey. Arranged to spend 4 hours to visit took us 2.
No gift shop or cafe felt disappointed at least I’ve visited but won’t go again
