Stunning scenery. Drove past it on the way to Portmeirion and decided to stop off on the way back for a paddle.
I am always aware of restrictions on paddling in new places so did lots of searches online to check restrictions but couldn’t find anything listed anywhere.
Parked up right next to the waters edge and pumped up by SUP board.
Got onto the water and had a lovely paddle around but as I was approaching the hotel a man came running out waning and shouting at me.
I paddled over and he told me paddling wasn’t allowed on the lake.
I immediately apologised but asked why and where I would find that info as I had checked already and hadn’t found anything. He said the water is privately owned and no equipment is allowed on the water.
I could however swim there which I did and it was glorious.
Totally understand that they want to preserve the beautiful lake and restrict access. Just be aware as there are no signs informing you of no paddling.
Had a cup of tea while we were there after my swim which was lovely.

Trekking together with the route of dol-idris-path, the lake view was pretty & impressive that a bit look like Switzerland, and 2nd part a bit tired for walking up the hill also that was super muddy at farm. Trekking boots is needed.

At Bryncrug we left the A493 and continued via the B4405. Drive through a beautiful landscape and also pass this amazing lake. What a beautiful place and we enjoyed the lake and the landscape around it for a while on the benches.

Lovely walk from the pub at the end of the lake along the lakeside track and then up a steep path to the beautiful llyn cau. Not a difficult walk as the path is excellent but it is steep so a decent level of fitness required

Beautiful lake netser in very tranquil area! We hired a boat and spent 1.5h rowing around the lake. Jo- the owner of the boat hire was very helpful too. We loved it!

You just cannot beat the stunning scenery in this area. Really beautiful. My daughter did go swimming in it but it would have been a little too cold for my liking.

This hotel is our favourite "go to" place to stay. The wonderful staff who look after us so well and the amazing food too. The rooms are a delight to stay in ( we have stayed in quite a few), they are spotlessly clean,, the beds comfortable and have amazing views of the gorgeous countryside or lake. Perfect for those that love staying in a wonderful environment.

Although having previously reviewed this lake, I enjoyed the latest visit so much I thought to share a few further thoughts and photographs taken on the day.
Tal y Llyn lake is really worth a visit for anyone who enjoys the countryside and despite having visited countless times over many years, I never tire of it, especially in fair weather.
Although I didn’t walk much on this occasion, I thought to point out that you can walk around the lake and enjoy the views from different aspects, which I think is a little under four miles.
With hindsight, I should have gone for a good walk, but I was so idle after the fabulous Sunday lunch at the Ty’n y Cornel Hotel!
Hope you enjoy a relaxing visit as much as I did once again.

My son went here yesterday with the intention of a quiet solo paddleboard on the lake followed by a meal.
There were no notices forbidding this activity.
He had prepared his SUP but was aggressively approached by a male member of staff who was incandescent with rage, calling my son a stupid tw*t and other vile verbal abuse in front of outdoor diners.
I'm sure they weren't impressed by this persons behaviour either.
He was told in no uncertain terms that he was not allowed to use SUP on the lake as it was private property.
Needless to say, I and everyone I inform of this unnecessary abuse will never set foot in this place again.

Hello Nic. Along the North shore of the Tal y lynn lake is a minor road that leads to one or two farm houses. It is very pleasant and has no traffic. Continue past pen y bont hotel and follow it along by the lake. I can't remember if there are any cattle grids which could be the only glitch..... Very nearby are two points that I'm sure are wheelchair friendly. In the main car park to climb Cader Idris is a wheelchair loop through woodland.... And a short distance torwards the coast Dolgoch Falls - the first falls are fully accessible. A little further afield Tywyn seafront has good access... and there are several options in Coed Y Brenin....
