I went for the local Farmer's Market. Wonderful items, fresh and homemade breads, jams et. Local Produce. We left with several bags full including fresh raisin bread and lots of jams. Peaches, cherries and tomatoes. The vendors leave around 1 so go early.

We attended the Springs Festival at the Springs Museum for the first time yesterday. There is a variety of crafts vendors, demonstrations, and musical performances. We enjoyed the various demonstrations we saw - sheep shearing, weaving. The crafts varied widely in quality; most were quite good. The same thing with the musical groups - enjoyed most of the ones we listened to. The Nature Trail Stage was too close to the demonstration of farm equipment which often drowned out the unamplified music there. The hestival is out doors so if it is raining - like it was yesterday - you need to be prepared to get wet. It is spread out over a relatively large area and the map was not tht helpful in finding individual vendors or locations. The biggest problem was just getting there - we got within 2 miles of the festival and then spent almost an hour just sitting in a traffic jam. I think it was caused by the inability of the parking lots volunteers to get people parked quickly enough. If we return next year, we will try to locate an alternate way into the festival and hope for no rain.

This small museum tell the story of the people who settled and developed the area, southern Pennsylvania and nearby Maryland and West Virginia. Every fall, first full weekend in October, the museum is part of the Springs Folk Festival. It's a fun event for all.

Take a trip back in time via the artifacts of local families. Arranged as if in use, and the owners had just stepped from the room, the viewer is taken back to a simpler life. Kitchen and parlor displays; are fleshed out by anecdotes, and local news. Farm implements and equipment are on display, and help to depict what life was like ibn the late 1800's and into the mid 19th century . A bit off the beaten path, best done on a Saturday to hit the farmer market.
