It’s was awesome old church and cemetery. The place reminded me of London and whatnot. I wasn’t scared being in the cemetery.

On one of the tours we learned about the Ghost of Sue Howard who is believed to Rome the Cemetery next to the church. The day we went the church was closed but we did get to see the Cemetery. Although we did not see any ghosts on that day. Beautiful architecture and ghostly stories make this one destination for everyone in they're to see list when visiting Chelation.

St Phillips church was a very beautiful church in Charleston South Carolina. The church bells are beautiful. The church and surrounding cemetery were well worth a visit and to pay respects.

A traditional tea room, with home-made produce, is one welcome aspect of a visit to the imposing St Philip's church, but if you're heading there mid-afternoon, arrive early as its opening hours are limited.
Homely and welcoming, the tea room is in the nearby cloisters.

We had the wonderful surprise of walking up (well, we kinda ran) when we heard the bells going crazy, bagpipes playing, and realized it was a wedding! Beautiful site and the bells echoing gave me chills. One of the highlights of our trip. Not sure if the bells chime regularly, but worth being near if they do.

Visually stunning. Turned the corner onto Church Street from Queen Street and was awestruck by the steeple of St Philip’s rising before us. Especially beautiful at sunset or after dark when illuminated. Unable to go inside but did visit the adjacent graveyard said to be haunted and the final resting place of former US Senator and Vice President John C Calhoun.

Charleston, South Carolina, is home to grand churches, magnificent colonial and antebellum mansions, historical sites dating to the Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War II and world-class restaurants. One of the most inspiring sites is St. Philip's Church. Located at 142 Church Street, the stuccoed brick structure was built in 1836 while its imposing and towering spire designed in the Wren-Gibbs tradition was completed in 1850. It also features three Tuscan pedimented porticoes and a graveyard where some of Charleston's most notable citizens are buried. St. Philip's history predates the church. Established in 1681, it is the oldest European-American religious congregation in South Carolina. It once occupied a wooden building that stood on the corner of Broad and Meeting streets, the present day site of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. A new St. Philip's Church on Church Street was finished in 1723 but burned down in 1835. Work on the current church was completed the following year. The steeple is so tall that for years it served as the rear tower of a set of range lighthouses that guided mariners into Charleston Harbor. The adjacent graveyard is the burial site of John C. Calhoun, the seventh Vice-President of the United States; Charles Pinckney, a signer of the U.S. Constitution; and Edward Rutledge, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973.

A landmark in the historic section of Charleston. Definitely worth the walk. Parking may be a bit challenging, so find a place to park, and then walk to the church.

I walked by Saint Philip's Church during my visit to Charleston in June 2021. It is good for a photo. It was closed so it was not possible to go inside.
