Moirlanich Longhouse, to me, represents an excellent example of how a small historic site can be run to engage and interest the visitor.
It should be said that you will need some level interest in cultural history in order to enjoy this small and, arguably, low-key site. National Trust well as its Scottish counterpart (NTS) visit for free.
The house is furnished, decorated and equipped as it would have been right up to the early 20th century. Each room is full of fascinating detail and the whole gives the feeling of a real, if humble, home.
Displays and information boards paint a picture of the rural, farming lifestyle of the erstwhile inhabitants but, best of all, the volunteer guides working here are keen to chat about the house, the life of its inhabitant and indeed, the history of the area in general. Without these excellent guides, I might have awarded one fewer star to this attraction. As it is, I'd love to have been able to give 4 1/2 stars.
If in the area and interested in its history, this is a must.

We visited on foot on a lovely morning, although we knew that we were too early for the tour. We read the helpful and informative board about the history of the building.
We were rather disconcerted to hear music, voices and noises coming from inside and wondered if they were made by the ghosts of the people who lived their lives there! My partner also suggested that it might be that someone had a left a tape of sound effects playing ( But that sounds a bit far fetched!) Definitely worth a visit!

Fascinating insight into how the Highland farmers lived and worked. The house has been preserved in a brilliant way, and it feels like you are literally stepping back in time.
The opening hours are limited so do check before you visit, otherwise it may be closed when you arrive.
But well worth the trip.

Is this a 'destination' attraction? No. Is it worth your time visiting? Oh yes! It isn't big, it isn't spectacular but it is informative and educational. Well laid out so that you can learn about the life of the people who lived here. What really elevated our visit was the enthusiasm and knowledge of the volunteers staffing it. Well worth putting on your itinerary.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit yesterday. We've been going to Killin for years and didn't know it existed! When we went to present our National Trust cards we had a very interesting, informative talk from a guide who told us about the family who had lived in the house over the years, and how they used the house. We then had a look at the various rooms in the house, including the 'hinging lum' or hanging chimney which looks quite dangerous! Well done NT on renovating and presenting this important property so well.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Wonderfully preserved insight into how the family and animals lived in Moirlanich. Friendly and interesting guides added to the experience.

Visited on Sunday 12th September, our guide was Eleanor who gave a very interesting and informative introduction. The NT are trialling a digital speaker system in the long house, I didn’t find this particularly helpful, rather it distracted from the exhibits. The long house was a fascinating glimpse into lives of the families who previously occupied the house. Well worth a visit, open Wednesdays and Sunday and pre booking required at present.

Visited this NTS property on a sunny weekend to Killin. Booked a Sunday slot online for a guided tour with two ladies who were so knowledgable about the history of the place. The longhouse museum is a fascinating insight into the lives of tenant farmers in 19/20th century Scotland. There's some great artefacts from previous owners of the house, especially clothing, farm implements, household utilities and other personal items. The longhouse is an interesting design especially the restored bedrooms, parlour, kitchen and the animal shed. Really interesting to see a single passage with access to all the aforementioned rooms under a single roof.

Very informative visit to this longhouse. Guide provided lots of information and the house is well maintained. The kids were very interested and he answered all their questions and ours. We had a good look round the house and the display of items found in and around the area.

What's it like for wheelchair access?
Escrita el 1 de julio de 2017
The Display Hut is fine for access but the house itself is quite small with uneven floors and therefore limited. We've certainly been able to get a wheelchair into the kitchen previously which is the main room of the house. You would be able to see the hingin' lum, Scots dresser and a box bed in the kitchen and get a good view of the Best room too.
