This park is huge! Multiple waterfalls that can be enjoyed without strenuous hikes if desired. If hiking is your thing, there is plenty of that also. Staff at visitor's center was very helpful. New lodge being built and should be open next year. Cabins for rent that are right on the lake. Lots of campground area. We visited in December and the park was not crowded at all.

Incredible beauty and wonder. Hiking down to base of falls and back up exhilarating. Everything you need is in park and is great! If you MUST leave visit Penny's souvenirs and the Mennonite community. Only negative is wifi not great but hey that's not what you're there for..it's a total disconnect!

Very strenuous hike to the base of the falls but definitely worth it. Sturdy shoes are a must. Would not recommend for very young children or dogs. Can wade or swim but water is freezing and it’s hard to get in because the rocks are loose and slippery.

We came on Memorial Day and we figured it would get crowded but weren't quite expecting the crowds that were there. We arrived early to the park (around 9AM) and stopped by the visitor's center for suggestions on exactly which hike to take. Super friendly staff was very helpful. Parked at the nature center and parking lot was about half full. Hiked from nature center across the suspension bridge (kids were 50/50 if that was fun or terrifying) out to the main falls. We then hiked down to the base of the falls. First part of the hike down is steep but a flat path, last part is a bit of scramble over rocks but our two preschoolers managed it. Hike back up was vigorous but not impossibly hard. Then we hiked back to nature center. At this point it was about noon and the parking lot was a zoo. We decided just to picnic at the nature center vs moving our car at that point. Stopped back by visitor's center on our way out for souvenirs and to use the very clean restrooms. Great visit would recommend but if coming on a weekend get to the park early.

If you want to go mountain climbing, the back way in will not disappoint - I’m referring to entering the RV park. Sad they don’t let you know there is a much easier road to pull your load over. It was a very steep climb...so thankful that campers told us of the other road - otherwise would have had our brakes burned out. It must have been a really rainy season...both the baths and showers were flooded as well as our individual disposal site. If we had let this happen to our sewer sites at home, the state would have fined us. Expected more for a state controlled rv park.

Fall Creek Falls was spectacular. Take the trail to the bottom. It's worth it...
Cascade falls (behind Nature Center) was great. Worth the trip down the stairs (and rocks)
Wear good shoes for the trails (pretty rocky).
Campsite D183 says it was level, but was not. Bring leveling blocks. We were traveling with a 33' 5th wheel camper. Easy in, and out.
One bathroom (and one stall in Men's), for Campground D.
Had a great time. Definitely recommend.

We wanted to camp in the park but the dates full so opted for a day trip from Rock Island State Park. Beautiful park, trail to hike (some steep) and waterfall you can view from just a short walk.

The geological features in this part of the state continue to amaze me. I feel like I am out west when I see these sheer rock faces and waterfalls cascading down from the top. Piney Falls was visible, but the trail that would allow a closer look was under repair. The park layout was a little confusing at first, but I eventually got my bearings. After driving for a while I started to question if I was going the correct way. Additional signs farther from the park would have been more reassuring. You could easily spend the day inside the park with all that it offers. I was only there for the hiking, but fishing/boating, golfing, Treetop Adventures are just some of the additional offerings. Hiking to the bottom of Fall Creek Falls was worth the effort. The climb can be steep and unlevel at times so bring a hiking stick. The George Hole stop was also an interesting and quiet location. This is a must see park in the Sparta area.

We've always loved this park and it's still a pleasure to visit. The main falls can be viewed very close to the parking area, an easy walk for most to view. The hike to the bottom is another story. It should be marked strenuous. There are lots of large rocks and roots to walk over but the trip is worth it. There is also another falls in the park that is an easy walk to view. we'll be back with the Inn reopens in a couple of years.

We had read that it was a busy park and we were there on Labor Day so it was very busy. We fund a nice picnic area. It was fairly clean and had shade. Trash cans near by. We drove a little further to a parking lot for the falls. Parking lot was packed. No one walking around had on a mask so we did not feel comfortable getting out to see the falls. We stopped by a building near the picnic area but didn't see any information about trails. There was no charge.
