Do not go without a paddle and a life jacket and FYI tubes have a weight limit and they are not one size fits all. The company is hands off and they don't verbally advise anyone about safety good thing you sign a waiver to be put a risk like that. Ten minutes of verbal engagement from them, might end up being the difference between life and death, regardless of whether they are liable or not.

Funny enough, when I think back to any conversation I had with them, I realize it was just don't mess up the tube your you owe us this much, and no waiver no tube.

I am covered in scratches from branches and almost drown twice.

The company was nothing to complain about. However the river is not meant for beginners. We spent more time fighting the current and trying to stay out of the brush than enjoying the float. This was nothing that I expected after all the reviews I read. Did we die? No! We Almost drown twice. Bring oars! Don’t rely on frisbees. Opt for the life jacket! This river is NOT slow it is NOT lazy. Be prepared !!!

This company is terrible. They had zero care for the safety of the people they sold these tubes too. I called and asked about taking children on this float. The guy I spoke to on the phone said it was a passive float and that it was fine for children and that they provided life vests. This float was not PASSIVE, the River was moving fast and there a lot of brush and rocks you can bump into all throughout the float. They gave very little safety instruction and what they did impress upon us was the cost of replacing any damaged equipment. I would not recommend any kids under 7/8yrs of age or anyone that is not a strong swimmer. Please don’t book with this company and they are irresponsible and callous.

My friend and I who have both floated rivers before were excited to have a fun adventure. The company set out tubes and life jackets, gave brief instructions about where to get out and pointed to where to get in the river. Less than a minute in my friend fell off her tube after smacking into a bunch of tree branches on the side. She struggled to keep her head above water as I swiftly sailed right into another massive pile of branches, logs, and rocks. The tubes were over inflated and had a mesh seat and backrest. With the slightest tilt or bump into a rock you go flying off. We struggled to get back on our tubes while standing on slippery logs and rocks and hanging onto tree branches.
After multiple attempts, we decided that we were just going to keep falling off and the river was too dangerous to navigate without a stable tube to sit in. We attempted to climb the embankment, but the brush was so thick we couldn’t gain any ground. I tried calling the number we had been given for the company, but my cell service wasn’t good. I was able to get through to 911 and the sheriff’s department sent a boat to get us.
No injuries besides scratches and sore muscles from clinging to tree branches for so long.
The deputy was kind enough to drive us to our car. When I approached the shuttle driver and told him we had to be rescued, he didn’t look a bit surprised, made no apology, and did not offer a refund.
We also saw another tuber fall off her tube immediately after entering the water, but her husband was able to help her out.
In short:
1) there is no safety protocol making sure that no one gets lost, no one is taking a headcount or looking out for you.
2) the tubes for rent are a joke. They are overinflated and the mesh seat acts like a trampoline bouncing you out of your tube the second you hit a bump. The clips on ours didn’t work and we almost lost a tube when we hit our first bump. They are especially dangerous for overweight people.
3) the cooler they rented us for $10 had bleach in the bottom which ruined our food and bleached our clothes.
4) the shuttle driver said they had never lost anyone, but the deputies told us they pull people out of the river all the time.

………….
If you really want to float the river I recommend getting a tube that you are comfortable with, having an oar, wearing a life jacket and good river shoes, keeping your phone/keys in a waterproof case strapped to your body. This company is a joke and I’m surprised they are still in business.

The guy running this place is terrible. He was rude and aggressive out of nowhere. We had reservations. After taking our money and giving us a cooler and telling my friend to drive down to drop our car off at the end so their shuttle would pick them up, they cancelled on us leaving our friend stranded and without cell service to locate them in 95º weather. The guy approached us after he had ditched our friend and just started yelling at us that we were too late for our reservation and asking where our friend was. Our reservation was at 2, it was 2:15 and it takes 2-3 hours to get down the river. They say they close at 6 so I'm not sure what this jerks problem was other than sucking at basic math. Anyway, yea he cancelled our trip and wouldn't let us go. He even closed the shuttle door on us after we emptied the cooler and were handing it to him. Then he drove down to the end spot where our friend was and yelled at her too! Of course we didn't know this for a while because we were driving around trying to find her for about an hour. I hate this guy and hope this company goes out of business.

Fun with a huge gang on a hot day! Took ten 13 year-olds and everyone had a blast. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

This was our experience with Yakima River Tubing. When we showed up, the parking lot was full so we put on our masks since we were in close quarters with so many people. We were immediately mocked by the person running the front gate which was unprofessional and gives you a clue to how serious they take COVID and sanitation. We progressed down to get our gear and go floating and we were informed that we had to pay an additional $10 for parking, so be prepared and bring some extra cash. There is also nowhere to store things to keep them dry or safe so bring plastic bags if you have anything that you don't want soaking wet. Also, there were no paddles and the river is strong, so we ended up running into a bunch of trees and got bite up by spiders. To be honest, it was a miserable experience without any way to control your tube and we were beaten up pretty bad by the end as we were thrown off our tubes and ran into rocks multiple times.

This is not my first time tubing, and this is hands down the worst company I've ever dealt with. My partner and I are both athletic, we go kayaking, hiking, and we both lift and neither of us could prevent the tubes from running into rocks and trees. If you have children, DO NOT COME HERE. One lady almost lost her son as the river swept him away when he fell in.

We were rescued by a boat that had found some oars and they were sweet enough to share with us so we could avoid running into the trees. Once we reached our destination, they PACKED the shuttle and there was no enforcement of face masks. If I would've known all of this I honestly would not have come. Their website makes it seem like they do their best to keep people safe, but it's clear that their attitude towards COVID is that it's fake and "no big deal." so proceed with whatever risk you feel comfortable with.

If you are not seasoned tubing on large rivers with a lot of power, this river will be a struggle. I'm a 35-year-old male, athletic, and went with 3 of my friends that are the same age, regularly hike/do outdoor activities, and are in shape as well. I mention this because the river is strong and I would NOT recommend it for anyone that has isn't athletic, is elderly, or is young (and certainly not for those age groups without a seasoned person).

The initial instructions were simple, don't get too close to the edge of the river because it can push you onto the banks, into trees, into rocks, etc. This is an understatement - we had to constantly struggle to not hit the edge, trees, and rocks jettisoning out, etc. - it was quite a workout for us, and at times felt dangerous. At one point we smashed into a tree along the side of the river (despite the fact we were all pushing/paddling away from the edge nearly the entire time). When this happened, our friend fell off his tub and we quickly drifted away...luckily we all immediately jumped out of our tubs and stopped moving, but this too was a struggle. The river is strong and fast and is not conducive to just getting out of your tub and standing up - you will struggle to do this. The bottom of the river is rocky and slippery as well, so you will have a hard time staying in place, especially if your crew isn't strong. I'd strongly recommend water shoes if you decide to do this.

I WISH WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD:
- The river is STRONG and fast-moving
- There are dangers throughout, you can easily get knocked off and it will be difficult to stop/hold still so you could lose a member of your party.
- WATER SHOES ARE A MUST
- Wear your life jacket - the river can easily sweep you away. This is not a "lazy" river, it is on the move.
- There is no signage from the time you start until it's time to be done (15 miles and 3.5 hours later). The only sign will be at the end saying "Big Horn." That's where you're supposed to get off. No one will be there to guide you off or tell you you're in the right place. You will have no warning until you see this sign, and then it's time to get off. If you go too far past there is a large fallen tree that you will run into (this feels dangerous).
- It is hard to move across the river. It's fast-moving and so trying to get from the right side of the river to the left (where you disembark) will not be a quick and easy task.
- You want to bring an oar. Paddling with your arms across this river is difficult.

My crew and I have done numerous lazy rivers, and so we had an expectation that this would be simple, easy, and obvious (it's not).

The staff do not seem to take a headcount, so if you or your party are lost, go too far, etc., there doesn't seem to be a system to ensure you are accounted for.

All-in-all, this is not a tubing experience I would recommend because there is little in the way of safety, it's not a lazy river experience and we honestly had a couple of moment where I thought someone was about to get hurt or washed away - not awesome emotions when you're trying to chill and have a good time with friends.

That being said, the view from this river is out of this world. If you're an adventure taker, know your way around a quick-moving and strong river, or are a seasoned tuber, you may enjoy this.

Traumatic experience on the river yesterday. 3 Angels helped us.!
We went on a 12 mile float down Yakima River yesterday on tubes. We were all tied together and enjoying the float when 45 minutes in we hit a bumpy part and my 9 yr. old son got thrown out of his tube. I immediately jumped in after him but the current kept taking me down river. An angel named Chris jumped in and started swimming towards Aiden faster than I could. My 31 yr. old daughter and my boyfriend jumped out of the tubes as well to slow them down. Some nearby rafters who were our other 2 angels (Eve and Mercedes) motioned me to swim to them. Chris got my son Aiden on one of their tubes and I held onto the side of Mercedes tube. Chris and I were both in the water holding onto tubes going down river hitting rocks along the way. I was terrified because the water was very shallow and I kept feeling rocks under my feet and was scared I was going to get hurt badly from debris. Mercedes tried to switch over to her tube with the cooler in it So I could get on her tube, and fell in the river as well. Eve who had Aiden on her tube detached from us. My daughter Jenny & boyfriend Will got back on their tubes but detached from each other as well.
Now we were all floating down the river separated. Eve & Aiden kept getting further and further apart from us and I was getting worried so I asked Mercedes and Chris to pull over to the side so we can wait for them. We grabbed some grass on the side and Will caught up with us. I saw Jenny had connected with the big group so I felt better about her safety. But we didn’t see Aiden and Eve go by. We kept asking people floating by if they saw a lady and a boy and somebody told us they pulled over to the side and went up the hill. Chris went up the hill to help and then Will and I followed after. Climbing up the hill was scary too because the dirt kept sliding down. Will had no shoes and was walking along the hot rocks with me to get Aiden.
We finally got to Eve, Chris and Aiden. Cris was caring Aiden on his shoulders. I hugged Eve for a long time and could tell she was traumatized as well. She informed me that she called 911 and that the Rangers were going to meet us down the path. Chris and Will went back down the hill with the floats to take them down the river. Aiden lost one of his shoes so I gave him one of mine and was walking on the hot rocks with one shoe for a while before I decided to take off my life jacket and use it to walk on. we met up with the Ranger and he said for us to walk on the train tracks because he had the train stopped. We walked about a mile to get to the bridge where we were able to find Jenny.
We had no idea where Will was and People told us it was two hours still from the bridge to the ending point. So we drove up and down the river looking for Will. I finally saw him but he was on the other side of the river and couldn’t get over in time to get off.. He pulled over down the river and climbed up a dangerous Hill with the two tubes.
I thank God for sending us those 3 angels, Eve, Chris & Mercedes. I honesrly don’t know what would’ve happened without them. At one point when we were all in the water separated, I felt helpless because I couldn’t get to Aiden, Will or Jenny and I thought one of us could die. I still keep seeing this image in my head of Aiden drifting from me and calling out my name mommy. Thank you God for being with us that day and and sending us 3 angels.

Please know that this company does not give you any training or instructions on what to do in the event of an emergency. They don’t have anyone on the river to help except local floaters.

YAKIMA RIVER TUBING (Ellensburg) - Qué SABER antes de ir (2024)
