Maybe it was the time of year that we went, but I don' t think so. I was totally disappointed in the gardens. It looks like at one time this was a beautiful botanical garden developed by one man. He is 90 yrs. old and this garden really needs more than one full time gardener. Many of the plants are just in plastic planting pots and aren't even in the ground. So many of the trees and plants need to be pruned. Some of it has just gone wild. There are many different species of plants, but they haven't been taken care of. There are so many beautiful places in Maui to see, I felt this was a waste of the short amount of time we had there. Not even worth $10 fee. A real disappointment. I felt we had been scammed.

We wanted to check this out due to some real good reviews. This garden was not maintained at all with weeds all over the place and looking sloppy, not like you would imagine a botanical garden to be. I wonder why? There was no koi in the koi pond, which was not maintained at all and even dirty. I feel if someone gets back to caring about this place once again, it would have been a different experience for us.

We drove up from Wailea to Kula escape the heat, because, well, it's coolah up in Kula. That's why it's called Kula (not). And if you have any love at all for plants, flowers, and care to get to know the local flora or see exotic plants from far flung places, then just discard the earlier negative reviews for this place. The drive is worth it (great views!). The $10 entry is worth it. If you get through this place in 20 minutes, you didn't really look at anything. This place suffered a debilitating storm in December 2021 and they are still recovering. It's remarkable what they have been able to do, and I wish I had known about this place and visited before that cataclysmic event. Nevertheless, we took about an hour and half to meander around the place and took over 100 pictures of the unusual, colorful and beautiful flowers and plants. We didn't see any chameleons in the wild, but we found the caged one at the beginning of our tour. The koi pond is open again, and the little, baby koi are in a great place to thrive. If you're expecting Butchart Gardens, spend the $30 to get in up there. If you want to see what a private, family-owned and inspired fantasy of a garden on 8 acres looks like for just $10, don't miss this. There's a cute gift shop with some snacks, bathrooms and resident cats wandering about.

Very surprised at the entrance fee of $10. IAO state park is $5, the Lavendar Farm is $3. Not very much was in bloom. It is a very small garden and takes very little time to walk around. In addition, part of it was closed near the koi pond. No water was flowing in the stream at all. There were some pretty views. Certainly not worth $10 entrance fee. There was some nice vegetation.

It’s not worthy to visit the botanical garden. Basically there is no security and safety for the parking cars as we lost our valuable camera through a theft. The case door was opened and the SLR camera was stolen from our case within a span of 45 minutes. There are no security cameras within the parking lot. The garden is a small place and not worthy to visit. I don’t suggest to visit the place.

If you are reading this, do yourself a favor and visit the gardens!

We visited in mid February 2023 and it was delightful! The only area that was not open was the koi pond.

Upon arrival at the gift shop building a very nice young lady sold us tickets (bonus they have a military discount) and gave us a garden map. We were worried about the rain - but they had large umbrellas for us to borrow as well as bug spray.

We walked through and saw all the gorgeous flowers, plants and trees. I loved how most of them had signs indicating their names. Lots of benches and places to sit and enjoy nature. I especially loved the rainbow eucalyptus trees!

We took our time and spent about 2.5 hours at the garden. We saw a few chameleons and a couple of feral kitties that reportedly live there.

Maybe this is weird but I’m going to mention it, the gift shop had the cleanest bathroom we visited during our 2 weeks of sightseeing in Maui. Also the gift shop had a lot of cute one of kind things as well as snacks for purchase.

A long drive from Kahana Beach, but had breathtaking views as we gained altitude to around 3000+ ft. Temp dropped from 82° to 72°! Views back to West Maui & Kahului were breathtaking when the clouds cleared. Some white knuckle driving cures on the way. Expected Hawaiian plants & trees & was greater with world wide plants & trees imported before Hawaii became a state & implemented restrictions. They had recent storm damage to Koi pond & trying to recover. Hostess at front desk was very knowledgeable about history of the facility. Parking can be tight. The deck provided good platform for pics back down mountain.
Needs more visitor support at present. Flowers and trees were amazing!

We were pretty let down by this place and dont get the reviews. When I asked the women at the front how long it would take to go through, she said 45 mins to an hour if we explore all the parts. Well we explored every trail and we were done in about 20 mins. That’s with quite a few photo stops and reading lots of signs. I know it is only $10 entry fee, but I’d say it’s worth $3 at best, and that’s on top of the long drive to get there. Definitely don’t go out of your way, but it’s ok if you are killing some time before your Ocean Vodka tour.

Clearly a work of love for the community and the family that owns it. Great recovery after last years flood. If you love plants or just a beautiful walk through a garden this gem is well worth the very reasonable price. The views towards the west Maui mountains are also great

We were coming back from our Haleakala visit and was in the Kula area. It was worth the visit and $10 fee.. Nice to see a variety of fauna and flora. The Koi pond was off the visit due to damage from a storm. The garden wasn’t in a manicure condition in some areas but still wonderful to see some unusual flowers. They had a small gift store that had some nice Hawaiian souvenirs. We were given a small complimentary poster after we bought a couple of things in the gift store which was a nice momento,
