Took their Saturday walking tour. Excellent guide dressed in Victorian attire, in keeping with the focus on Gaslamp Victorian architecture. Guide really knew her stuff.

Small group of 8.

Self guided museum tour included in the price of $20 each.

Had a nice, informative tour with Daire. Great tidbits about the neighborhood, history, architecture. Learned to 'look up' while walking around because there is so much to see! Well worth it. Went in the museum after the tour and got a good look at this beautiful, oldest home in San Diego. Great destination!

Tour guide, Jaime! Cool virtual candle-lit tour. Best birthday surprise for our friend! Rhiannon, was helpful in setting up your. Enjoyed so much...made second donation. Can't wait for Covid to be over, so we can all visit in person.

Chi tardi arriva trova chiuso!

If you go, be sure to get the audio guide tour. The audio is extremely well done and provides lots of background and interesting stories. The house jam packed with artifacts, all with a story. It is small but definitely worth visiting.

We got the whole package and appreciated the narration while we walked. It eliminated the necessity of stopping to read the self-guided tour pamphlet in between the stops. The tour covers 2 floors and shows a glimpse of the attic access where the German WWII spy allegedly sent signals to the off-shore subs. He had (somehow or another) access to some logistical information which he would communicate to our enemy.

The distillery upstairs was an intricate affair; its intended purpose was to circumvent prohibition regulations. Quite an elaborate system which we assume was highly effective. Where there is a will, there is a way (I guess).

Looking at the first floor parlor and seeing the small keyboard against the wall spoke of the paucity of entertainment and how families made do with what they had. Life was so much simpler in the 1850's. But then, with gas lamps and no electricity, the household pretty much got up with the sun rise and retired with its setting.

The house had been a Civil War (Union side) headquarters in its early past, as well as a hospital (1873) with 5 beds upstairs; the then-owner had a county contract for $1.00 a patient (daily) and treated TB patients mostly. The bathroom and kitchen always tell such interesting stories about how these vital centers of the home's most important functions were utilized.

The museum is closed on Monday. The entry price also includes the admission to the Chinese Historical Museum (near by). Admission varies as to whether an audio guide is requested and how old the museum guest is. The range is between $5 and $10 (without any discounts).

Outside the courtyard pays tribute to the famous dogs recognized for their role in the community; they were loved for sure. However, the homeless population does camp out on the benches around the memorial monuments to these pets. This time around, we did not spend any time at these monuments because of the homeless situation.

Took the Saturday Gaslamp walking tour. The guide was a nice person and she definitely knows about the place, but she wasn't a very good at being a guide. It was hard to understand what was she talking about, and she didn't make enough effort to make the stories sound interesting.
The walking tour does not include much walking (as the area is pretty small), so it's mostly standing and hearing about building which are not that interesting....
Compared to walking tours we took in other cities like NYC or Chicago, this one wasn't worth the time...

This is the oldest building in Gaslamp
quarter. For now, it is known as small historic museum. With lovely little garden and a shop for souvenirs. You can travel back in the past and see different things from different periods. You’ll need 15-30 minutes and it costs just 5$.

Neat little museum showcasing the early history of the Gaslamp Quarter and some founding families. Nice respite for ~30 minutes.
