I am a lover of the ARTS..just wish I would participate in going out to the theatre more often! I haven’t been to the Arden in a while, but when I returned to see ‘My General Tubman’ it reminded me of what a great space this is to showcase talent!
The seating is intimate and you feel each actors portrayal with the intensity they deliver! There isn’t a bad seat in the Arden..so feel confident that you will enjoy the show no matter what tickets you may have.
This particular play I saw was a creative storytelling of Harriet Tubman’s life and achievements as well as placing a modern twist on the interpretation of some events!
Keep up that the great work of fostering top notch creative shows!

We are regulars of the Arden’s kids series and were not disappointed by The Snow Queen. This theatre continues to reinvent its stages, its shows, its actors. We are constantly surprised by the creativity, quality & excellence this theatre delivers. The personal touch of meeting the actors in the lobby after the show and the Q&A after the show is just what school aged kids will remember. Our son is 11 and this show was not too young for him.

Having been away from the City for about 8 years, we were delighted to find a play we wanted to see "Tiny Beautiful Things" playing at one of our favorite theaters, the Arden. Wonderful production, acting, and space. Check the website to see what's playing, and give it a go even if you may be unfamiliar with the offering(s)!

I was privileged to attend the Arden Theater Production of the Pulitzer-Prize winning play, Indecent, which is the story of another play "God of Vengence" that was banned as "indecent" in NYC the 1920s. The story line is transformative, the acting terrific, and the play incorporates three amazing musicians, a violinist, clarinetist and accordion player who set the place throughout with period Klezmer (Hebrew) music. Arden Theater provides an intimate setting, with spell-binding sets. If you are in Philly through June 23, 2019, I highly, highly recommend checking out this one-of-a-kind production.

We truly enjoy every time in Arden Theater. Very nice complex on 2nd Street. Parking is a bit expensive in the area so we usually end up walking a distance from some less expensive place but Philadelphia walks are pleasant pre- and post play activities. Arden tends to have interesting repertoire and performances are good. Foyer is rather casual and pleasant with a small bar area.

The Arden is a reliable theater for adult shows with good production values and great (mostly local) actors. The shows are an interesting mix of premieres and classics and the ticket prices are in line with what most other local theaters (aside from the Walnut, which fancies itself more the equivalent of a Broadway touring house) charge.
However, where the Arden really stands out, is in its children's theater, which is unparalleled in the city. (The only contender in the area is the far-off Chester County Peoples Light and Theater Company which seems to put an equal amount of effort into engaging young children.) It is rare that one of these productions is not a great way of introducing children and grandchildren to theatre-going with engaging usually original productions and personable casts involving the children's imaginations. They range from well-known stories like Charlotte's Web and A Year with Frog and Toad to original adaptations of Treasure Island, Peter Pan and Snow White. The hard-working casts strive mightily to engage with the kids, answering questions after the shows (despite frequently having to do a second show in a few minutes) and usually posing for kids in the lobby for pictures.
The only downside is that they only have two productions a year--one around Christmas through the end of January and the other from late April to early June.
The theater is also convenient to public transit (a half block north of the 2nd Street Market-Frankford Line stop) and in the middle of a boatload of restaurants--many more adult oriented but others friendly to kids in the Old City neighborhood.
The Arden is virtually indispensable for people who love the theatre who want to pass that love on to the next generations.

I attended one of August Wilson's plays - part of a cycle mounted by this theater. It was high quality with an appreciative audience - great evening.
