My husband and I enjoyed the Gettysburg Heritage Center and Museum. The interactive exhibits and the information you receive is definitely worth the price. It helped a lot to see the exhibits before going to the battlefield. The gift shop is awesome too as it has so many interesting books. Also highly recommend their personal tour guides for the battlefield. It was a memory for a lifetime.

Our tour guide Oda was great! The civilian perspective during the Battle of Gettysburg and the aftermath was different from all the other tours and was very interesting. The Shriver House was beautifully restored and the Shriver family history was well-worth the trip!

We did a two-hour, private driving tour of the battlefield with Fred which we arranged through the Heritage Center. Fred is an excellent guide who brings the battle alive in a short time and you are left with a real understanding of what happened. Fred is extremely knowledgeable and can answer any question. He also kindly helped to track down an ancestor who fought in the Civil War and was captured near Gettysburg. I highly recommend this tour.

We took the four hour personally guided tour and I had an amazing time. The guide was unbelievably knowledgeable, answered all my questions and was obviously excited about the subject matter. I want to take the tour again sometime and if there is a longer tour available, I'm all in.

Perfect weather, sparce crowds, and an excellent private guide, Howard Liddic, made this an outstanding 2 days. We covered days 1 and 2 of the battle on our first day and the 3rd battle day ("Pickett's Charge") on our second day. Combination of short drives and walking key areas of the battlefield. Learned a tremendous amount. Howard was able to answer all our questions. 4 hours each day went by quickly! Special treat was visiting the NC state memorial, which is remarkable, even if your aren't a NC native.

We enjoyed our visit to this museum. Plenty of artifacts, pertinent information and interactive displays especially the "in the cellar" exhibit. Didn't really enjoy the 3D displays.

Phillip was an excellent guide. He told the story in sequence, and explained the reason for and results of commanders' decisions. Our group's knowledge of Gettysburg varied from shallow to deep, and he answered questions ranging from simple to complex in a manner that was understandable. We all agreed that we would gladly have him as our guide on another trip, or on one of the longer, more involved tours.

The museum was great, if you are a Civil War buff. My wife is not, but she liked the presentations, and came away with a better understanding of that time period. It was great to see a lot of the battlefield, and a lot of the town, preserved from that time for future generations to see.

We really enjoyed learning about Gettysburg through the Heritage Museum. The video with the recreation of Pickets Charge characters in the foreground was a very different e.xperience.

Samantha, thank you for reaching out to us about Stars & Stripes Washington DC tours. They are still in the planning phases of their 2018 Washington DC tours. I did speak to their representative, and they said they should be picking up at the Heritage Center once again this year. There are no plans to make any changes. The tours will begin in June, and I would recommend reaching out to them so they have your information, and can contact you if any changes arise, or once booking is open, you can reserve your seat. You can reach them by calling 1-877-723-1863.

Thanks for your question! There is parking on-site, directly behind the museum. If you happen to park elsewhere in town, there is a trolley service that you can ride as well.

What is the iPad tour and how much does it cost to rent?

The iPad tour is a tour of the battlefield, using a specially programmed iPad that you pick up from our facility. As you follow the GPS synced map, the iPad tells you about the three-day battle. There are certain stops along the route where enhanced features, such as augmented reality are available. It is easy to follow. Cost is $34.95 to rent the unit for up to 5 hours. Currently we are open daily 9 am - 7 pm; visitors may rent the iPad anytime between 9 am - 2 pm to allow for adequate time to take the tour. If you have any questions, please let us know! The previous responses are very helpful, and mostly correct. It is $35 for 5 hours, and you receive an iPad loaded with a specilized tour. It is linked via GPS, and as you travel tells you about the three day battle. The cost is $34.95.
