The church is one of the taller buildings in the old area of town. It’s tall and white and looks very well maintained. A nice church.

I have been wanting to meet Pastor Terry Johnson for a while now and was able to attend the service. We were greeted by many people who were glad to have us worship with them. I also had a great friend from Atlanta area who tapped me on the shoulder as he and his wife were there also.

The Independent Presbyterian Church was open following Sunday services, so my wife and I stopped in to see the beautiful architecture. It's simple yet majestic. The organ is elevated with pipes on either side of the rear of the 2nd floor allowing for the ground floor to be for the congregation and visitors. The old stairs are a bit steep and tough to navigate should you be in a group, but one at a time - they shouldn't be a problem.
This is a functioning church, so should you wish to see it fully operational, visit on a Sunday at 9am, 10am or 530pm.

The Independent Presbyterian church in the Historic District of Savannah was one of the stops on our walking tour. It was built in 1755. It was used by the British during the Revolutionary War. And was used in 1885 for the wedding of President Woodrow Wilson.

wonderful traditional service , complete with piped organ, traditional music and gifted preacher, and beautiful church make this a great stop for sunday worship..

We were so lucky to be able to enter this church today and see the interior beauty. Simple but truly beautiful in its own way. This is the church that was filmed in the Forrest Gump with the feather floating.

It's rare that grand downtown churches with awe-inspiring architecture and deep histories still confess the same theological truths of those saints who founded and built them in the first place. They are typically spiritually moribund, having long ago capitulated to theological modernism; exchanging the true Truth of God for a seductive lie of worldly "influence" and cultural "relevance" which they never really had and which they have long lost.
However, IPC is a blessed exception where vital faith is humbly confessed, Christ is boldly proclaimed, the Scriptures rightly divided, the Gospel is rightly preached, the Sacraments rightly administered, and worship reverently conducted. It's these distinctives that actually give IPC far greater relevance and influence than any of the Biblically-bereft mainline mausoleums that dot historic downtowns across the country.
However, IPC is a blessed exception where vital faith is humbly confessed, Christ is boldly proclaimed, the Scriptures rightly divided, the Gospel is rightly preached, the Sacraments rightly administered, and worship reverently conducted. It's a bit austere, but that's the way they like it. A big church, historic church in the historic center of town, nicely displayed on a square. We were impressed.

We attended a wedding here this past week and it is awe inspiring. Location is prime in the center of the historic district and next door to Chippewa Square (the Forrest Gump Square). Inside is beautiful with ornate finishes (the ceiling looks like an elaborate wedding cake) & classic columns. Stop by if you can, you won’t regret it!

While vacationing in the area, we chose the Independent Presbyterian Church as a place of worship on Sunday morning. For such a large church, we were welcomed very warmly by many people there. There was a very friendly family atmosphere. The highlight of the worship service was the exceptional music. These people sing their lungs out accompanied by a very fine organist playing a good-sized pipe organ. In this day and age of contemporary worship music infiltrating churches everywhere, the exceptional music and boisterous hymn singing at this church was a wonderful experience. We would be here every Sunday if we lived in Savannah. This church truly embodies the holy spirit and fully demonstrates that a church need not put on a floor show with movie screens and loud trashy music to fill the pews. This was a truly wonderful worship experience!
