Incredible property and maintained gardens. Blew the botanical garden out of the water. Skip that and come here. You will love it.

We did so much in New Orleans, and this was my children's favorite place we visited. We were surprised at how child-friendly this home is! They even have a Children's Garden with hula hoops, a maze, etc. that we enjoyed while waiting for our tour. The entire staff was so friendly and helpful and willing to answer my children's questions. Our guide was phenomenal, keeping the children's attention. The gardens were also delightful. This greatly surpassed our expectations.

Staff was very nice and knowledgeable; we paid for the house tour only and self-guided in the garden which turned out to work well. Tour moves along very quickly, I would have enjoyed a bit more detail and lingering but the guide answered all of my questions. Gift shop was actually quite nice and I'm not a shopper. Overall, if you want something that was NOT a plantation that has unique character and you can afford the $25 pp, I would recommend it.

Our tour guide on Sunday highly recommended seeing Longue Vue House. We took an Uber out and spent the morning touring this wonderful and historic grand home.
Built by 2 very wealthy heirs, one from the Sears fortune, the other from a cotton fortune. The architect and landscape architect on this mansion missed nothing.
Our tour docent, Cindy made sure WE missed nothing. Cindy is a wealth of information and made sure we took our time and saw every little detail in the home.
Vantage points and axises were the key to taking in every detail of the estate. Cindy has a very trained eye and helped us to see all of the finest details throughout the property.
We never felt rushed and were allowed to stroll and take still photos as we desired. This tour is truly worth the money and we encourage everyone to take it with Cindy.

This venue is a little farther out of the French Quarter, but we were able to get there via streetcar and a walk. There is a parking lot so if you have a car you are all set. You can do a self guided tour of the gardens, which are quite lovely and have several impressive water features, as well as a variety of plants, some of which were beautifully fragrant when we were visiting. There are lots of great spots for photo ops, but most importantly the gardens are just lovely and relaxing - a great way to spend an hour or two. We also did the house tour which was equally interesting. There's a little welcome house where you can get a beverage, and there's also cold water available at the water fountain/bottle filling station. The staff is friendly and welcoming as well. Highly recommend.

The gardens and house was absolutely beautiful, but what we loved the most was our fabulous tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and interesting, with lots of side stories and nuggets that made it (seem, at least) tailored to our group. We ended up leisurely walking the grounds for hours. Do not pass this up. We have gone to several of the plantation houses in the area, and we enjoyed this more (it is not a plantation house, FYI).

This place is a hidden gem. Bob gave us an excellent guided tour and I would urge anyone visiting New Orleans to pay a visit. Fascinating family history and very atmospheric house.

Excellent option to visit an afternoon with family or friends! Located near the center of New Orleans, it is a beautiful mansion and gardens! We really enjoyed our visit!!

This was really special. The gardens are designed as a series of rooms, and are spectacular. The house is grand but not stuffy or intimidating; you want to just move in. There is a little "kitchen" (no appliances) that is just for flower arranging, and a similar thing that is a gift wrapping station. So charming. The couple that lived there were great philanthropists. One of the best things is that we were the only ones on our tour, so we had a private tour! Please tip your guide. Nice little gift shop on the premises, too.

Yes, you can just show up. I will add that it’s on the way back to the airport so you can catch it on the way out.

Also, Longview Gardens, while on the Metairie Bus, is on the Left side of Metairie Road as you approach the Canal, and you can see the Road that is the Entry into the Long View Mansion. Be certain the bus driver knows where you are trying to go and he will cooperate.

I'm pretty sure there was - my friend treated me to my entrance ticket so I'm not 100% sure, but I do know there was a deal that she found on line the day we went which meant we got really cheap entrance. I hope that helps somewhat.

How do I get there using public transportation?

You can catch the Canal streetcar from the downtown area, until it's last stop near City Park/Old Metairie. From there it is about a mile walk to get to Longue Vue. A better option would be to catch a cab.
