We had read what wonderful art exhibits the Alaska Native Medical Center had and wanted to see them.
This place is a real hidden gem. The art exhibited on each floor and even in the stairwells was just phenomenal! They have it displayed very nicely and the art information is labeled very well and easily deciphered.
It's like a small easily doable art museum located in Anchorage. So glad we took the time out to visit. The art/gift shop was small but, very nice. We even met a local artist there selling his works to the store. Beautiful place!!

I visited many gift shops while in Alaska looking for a nice example of Alaska native arts to buy. This shop has the best selection and prices. They buy directly from the native artists and mark them up 20%. The difference goes to native causes.

This is a large craft sales center, with woven plates, baskets, and jewelry, all hand made by local artisans. The prices are reflective of the talents of the artists.

A wonderful shop with handmade items directly from the artist. Excellent craftsmanship and artistry with diverse items from many areas. And no worries that they are imported from Asia. The prices seem very reasonable, given the

We got a tip from our tour bus driver about the outstanding native Alaskan art and crafts on exhibit in the Alaskan Native Medical Center and this was supported by our hotel shuttle driver who used to work in the hospital. We stopped by and we're amazed with the beautiful and tastefully exhibited works of native crafts and art throughout each floor of the hospital and the very wonderful pieces of native art in their small craft store. The craft store has limited hours so you need to plan your visit carefully, only open 4 hours daily as it's run by volunteers. Items in the shop are of outstanding quality with very modest markup and the profits are funneled back to the native Americans to support their needs. My wife bought a few pieces that were clearly higher priced in other shops in Juneau and the sales clerk carefully researched each item to document their background and artist bio. Not all items, especially ivory ones, can be bought and sold to those outside of the US so be aware of trade and commerce restrictions.

It is a very limited amount of beautiful artifacts and hand crafts that grace the walls of this medical center
It’s an amazing collection of beautiful carvings, basket weaving, parkas made from animal skins and furs, jewelry, etc
Your best bet is to start by taking the elevator to the fifth floor get off and work your way down by the stairs because between each floor on the stairs they even have little peekaboo windows with lovely lovely pieces in there
Some art is current and recent times and others is old
It is a very unusual place in that you have all this beautiful artistry and craftsmanship amongst many poor and indigenous people who are in the medical center for assistance but ironically are some of the ones who have created the art that is there
It does give you pause to reflect on life‘s blessings and things that are beautiful and how they may be created by people who have struggled
Everyone there was so kind and friendly.
Gift shop is lovely it’s not cheap but have beautiful beautiful works of art there.
They had slippers made of moose skin and seal fur: each one absolutely beautiful and lovely
Sterling silver and some sterling silver with gold jewelry bracelets mainly and some earrings as well not as expensive
Bring lots of cash if you want to buy one of the beautiful sculptures will cost anywhere from $100-$1000+
I bought a one of its kind dolphin sculpture with five dolphins Carved and giving the appearance that was swimming over some driftwood and that was $400.
Nice thing about the store is helping the native people and donating to the medical center as well and the artists get fair price on their crafts
Very small gift shop right on the property in the first floor and to get to the medical center is out of the way of downtown Anchorage but a 15 to 20 minute car ride from downtown Anchorage
If you enjoy native art and crafts and artifacts you will enjoy this small but selective collection And if you buy at the gift shop you’re supporting the native indigenous culture made in America arts and crafts which is a lovely thing!

We will be in Alaska in July for a few weeks. I am quite interested in purchasing an Alaskan native carved ivory to take home. I'm not much into trinkets, but we always try to bring home something to remind us of our time there as well of something of worth.
Do you sell Alaskan native carved ivory and if so, what are your hours of operation

I believe it's 10am to 2pm most days. Also, they only accept cash or check, but there is an ATM in the building which doesn't charge a fee.
