Wonderful museum to one of WW II most important battles. Excellent design by focusing entire collections by country (Italy, German, Britain, etc). Very clear labeling. Outside exhibits well taken care of. Well worth your time!

Outside the heavy weapons display was excellent while inside the memorabilia from all sides was interesting including Rommels hat donated by his nephew. The guide was enthusiastic and so helpful. If you have any interest in WW2 and the greatest battle of North Africa campaign then you visit. We stayed locally in the excellent Regal Heights hotel which I would thoroughly recommend ❤️.

A fascinating insight into a very important theatre of war, one our parents were involved in so very much of interest to us.
The museum was excellent both inside and outside.

I remembered the story of El Alamein and the importance of the desert conflict to the war in Africa. So I was delighted that a visit here was included in our tour of Egypt. El Alamein is not near to the traditional tourist places but if you can visit I would highly recommend.
You will need a couple of hours to walk around and enjoy the exhibits but externally (the hardware) and the internal museum that covers on a room by room bails the main countries in the war in the region.
As you would expect this is a serene place but together with the nearby cemetery is pays respect to the fallen and tries to tell there story and allows you to understand the strategic importance of the conflict.

The El Alamein museum is usually a shore excursion for cruise ships in Alexandria, but we went by local taxi, so that we could see it on our own at our pace. About 90 minutes from Alex, once out of town it's a 5-lane motorway. Although our driver (who had speed camera phobia) was a native of Alex, he hsd great difficulty finding this museum, as it is totally unmarked. Some of the cmeteries are signposted, but not the museum.
Once there, it is a revelation: immaculately turned out with everything the history buff could want. Plus a charming young man to show us round and explain. Anyone interested in WW2 MUST go.
I'm told, about 3 hours from Cairo, a small entrance fee payable in local currency.

Fascinating little museum absolutely packed with artifacts. The vehicles outside were the highlight. The guides were the absolute best, very helpful, incredibly knowledgeable, and not at all pushy. Very strongly recommended.

This place is around 3 hours driving from Cairo by the highway. It is quite small site but full of the war artefacts. There are displays of both Italian, British and German equipment and many armoured vehicles, tanks and cannons. You will also finds a maps of the battle as well as texts in english. I can highly recommends. Unfortunately a caffe/bufet was closed but we were there of the turistic season.

This is a well laid out museum covering the forces involved in the battle, a large room is dedicated to each. The artifacts on display are quite thin in quantity and liberties taken with the dressed mannequins, (never seen a desert soldier wearing shiny black patent leather shoes) The museum is quite new so perhaps the collections are still being built up. Outside there is a collection of battlefield artillery and mobile armour in various states of decay/disrepair, probably as recovered from the field. It has all the attributes to tell a compelling story about the battle but lacks the cohesion to pay tribute to the men of all sides.

una seconda domanda , parliamo dello stesso sacrario della folgore?
grazie in anticipo , cordialmente patrizio

Is it possible to take any tour from a hotel at Sidi Abdelrahman? Otherwise, is it possible to find a taxi from this museum to go back to Sidi Abdelrahman (in case one has to go to this museum by taxi from the hotel).

Hi,
there isn't a taxi rank or anything there, I would advise you ask the concierge at your hotel to arrange a taxi/driver to take you, wait for you and bring you back. If you do it through the hotel you will get a reliable driver and a fixed cost.

I am interested in knowing when the pavings surrounding the exhibits were introduced. Was it in 1992, at the renovation, or earlier? The reason for this query is that the pavings are famous, and are known as the 'Cairo tiling' I have been investigating this paving as to background. One outstanding matter is where these were made. Knowing this may help me better establish the history upon contact with the manufacturer. Can you tell me where these pavings were obtained?

Sorry, you do indeed know more than me, when we went there we spent most of the time in the actual muesum as it was extremely hot, I cannot think how you could find this information out though maybe try emailing the actual muesum itself.
