While the majority of the walk is quite flat on a gravel surface, it is a constant steep incline that may be challenging for those with low stamina (like me). There are three benches spread out across the walk which my knees were very grateful for; once you reach the third bench you're on the home stretch to the summit. The final 100-150m is difficult in that you need to climb uneven, rocky stairs and scramble through/over some rocks. Fit walkers could probably reach the summit in an hour, though it took me 1 hour 20 minutes to ascend, and 40 minutes to descend at a steady pace. The road to the car park is windy, but sealed with only a couple of potholes. Plenty of carparking is available, as well as a drop toilet with no soap or water.

A great walk with some awesome views at the end. I came after some rain so it was a but muddy but otherwise the view at the end was worth the little slips. I had the top to myself for a little while too which I appreciated! Got to sit on some rocks and take it all in!

We’re so proud to walk right to the top with my 4y/o son.
Such a breathtaking view!!! GORGEOUS!!!
However, we would have enjoyed the walk better if there’s not much number of flies 🪰 that also bites.

Have done this walk several times and the view on a clear day is 100% worth the effort. However during the school holidays and weekends Nov-April the carpark is closed and you have to park at Tidal River and get the shuttle bus.
If you have small children in car seats you can still get the shuttle bus as seatbelts are not required on public transport but if you’re uncomfortable with this they will still not allow you to park in the carpark until after 6pm when the shuttle service ends.

The walk uphill was along a well graded vehicle road which wound its way up, and up and up. There were no items of interest or display boards on our slog and we reached the phone towers in about 50 minutes, at which point we both decided we’d seen enough. We are both in our 70’s and coped with it fine.

A steep walk which took us almost an hour was rewarded with great views especially towards Tidal River and Norman Beach.

You will need a moderate amount of fitness to do this walk, but the most spectacular view at the top is exceptional. The incline to the top is doable for a middle aged person so younger ones will excel. You cannot believe the view at the top why travel overseas when you have this amazing part of the world at your fingertips

Challenging walk that is worth the view from the top! It took us 40 minutes to reach the summit, however we wanted to see how quickly we could get to the top and did not stop for breaks. It would take longer if walking with people who find heights/walking up hill challenging, and I think it would be a difficult walk for young kids. Try to go on a day where there is no wind - when we went it was incredibly windy at the top of the summit and although still a great view, the wind was frustrating.

It was a bit of a climb to get there but what a view when we got to the top. Such a stunning view of the coastline.

So I have wanted to do this walk for ages... today I ventured out to Mt Oberon and failed. Whilst it's not the best feeling failing... I had little choice when I obviously became dehydrated and felt nauseas ... I really had to stop the walk and head back down. BUT how embarrassing is it... well... I was at the rock at the top and I had started to ascend the stairs. I sat for awhile, sipped water, but the nausea remained and about twenty minutes later I was still feeling unwell. I had to accept defeat.
The walk is not an easy one like a few have mentioned. It's easy for someone with a reasonably good level of fitness... but the lady I walked back down with found the paths quite difficult for her knees going down. She is an avid walker and said that she felt the walk, particularly that last 100 metres up the rock.
But what I will say is... you will feel like you have walked... My counter showed that I had walked in excess of 10000 steps and I didn't finish the walk. It's a wide path so don't worry about those who overtake you... or you feel the need to overtake... there is plenty of room... well until the last 100 metres up narrow steps. There are some gorgeous native flowers along the way as well.
There is reasonable parking and a pit toilet is available. They had a shuttle bus running from Tidal River, BUT not until a bit later in the day.
So, whilst I failed my attempt, I am going to recommend this walk... because even if you don't finish it, you are going to feel accomplished for achieving part of the hike.

It’s quit a tough trek but if it’s normal for him why not just make sure you all all wearing suitable footwear it’s not a flip flops or thongs walk if you are Australian walk some of the foot wear we witnessed was unbelievable

Is it safe to do the hike on my own on broad daylight?

It is safe at any time! It is much easier down than up! The view is well worth the trip though. Many families do the trip and everyone is really friendly along the way. make sure you take water and snacks because you might want to sit a while at the top!

Is it safe to walk down from the summit after sunset?

Personally, I wouldn't do it.
But,if you really want to see the sunset from the top of Mt Oberon I would seek the advice of the park rangers at the Tidal River campground first - they are the most qualified to advise you on the safety or dangers of such an endeavour.

Up the hill is a steady climb so depending on your fitness. I would allow about 1 hour up, 20min up the top and 45min down,
