This is a very beautiful setting and church, we did a private mass here. The gardens are worth the walk. Bethany has very busy traffic and a vibrant business district. It felt safe there but still, be careful.

The church is interesting. Very nice mosaics inside. Outside you can see remains from previous churches.

A few steps away up the street there is entrance to the tomb which is under Muslim auspices.
The steps down to the tomb (not necessarily of Lazarus but definitely like it) are steep and narrow.

Because of the separation barrier, I believe many tourists do not go to Bethany (Al-Eizariya). It is worth making the minimal effort. Just take Palestinian bus 263 off Sultan Suleiman road across from the walls of the Old City. The church is quiet and lovely, surrounded by a garden, and there is a separate room with a very impressive olive press and short film explaining how olive oil is made. That room is bordered by two other rooms where religious groups can hold worship. Very near the church is the Bethany Museum, a small archaelogical museum. The biggest treasure in the museum, however, was the woman who welcomed us, Muhtaha, with great hospitality. Bethany is a gem well worth visiting.

The place is in the Palestinian Territories, on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives. It can be reached by public bus from Jerusalem (bus stop is in front of Damascus Gate). it is where the Christian tradition locate the miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus by Jesus. You can visit the tomb and, near the beautiful modern church, also remains of Byzantine and Medieval churches and convent. Very interesting conservation activities are on going at the site. Inside the Franciscan area, near the modern church, a series of panels help to understand the history of the site.

Not a site that you would probably visit on your own (but tours and guides can take you there). Site is on the Mount of Olives, in Palestinian town of Al-Eizariya in area. Another one of Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi's amazing churches, so worth a visit for that reason alone. In Christian tradition it is the place where Jesus visited Martha and Mary after Lazarus died and brought him back to life.

This church located in the West Bank is where Lazarus (who was raised from the dead by Jesus) and his sisters Mary and Martha lived.
Historically this current church built in 1955 was built over churches built in the Byzantine and Crusader times and remnants of Byzantine mosaic tiles can be seen in the courtyard.
It is surrounded by a beautiful and well maintained garden. As it is in the West Bank it is not frequented by many tourists however as we were on a pilgrimage tour we celebrated Mass here.
The significance of this Church is that Lazarus was raised from the dead, a testament that Jesus had power over life and death. A truly sacred site to visit , reflect, meditate and pray.
It would be beneficial to come to this church with a guide.
