Seen so many waterfalls in my life, this one a disappointment. Very few parking spots, we got lucky as someone was leaving - and this was midweek. The path to the viewing platform was fine but then it went terrible, the rough rocks descending, then a long rock hop to the base, really not suitable for anyone unless young and fit. Even then, they are not worth it. Guess you live and learn.

Don't waste your time. Poorly maintained area/track...A big let down. Possibly nice if you wanted a swim... Warning that there is very VERY limited parking.. about 10 car parks. Then parking inspectors handing out massive fines if you park on the side of the road...

The walk was easier than I expected. About 500m easy walk to the lookout and another 500m to walk down to the bottom for a swim. It is slippery going down to the bottom part but there is a handrail.
Lots of fish and eels to see but our son was unlucky enough to get stung by a bullrout (freshwater stonefish) Treatment is to place affected area into hot water. Bring shoes to wear into the water to reduce the risk, it’s an awkward scramble across slippery rocks to get into and out of the water. Was a beautiful swimming spot otherwise.

Definitely not what I was expecting yet there were nearly 100 people making their way down to the waterfall or coming back up the very rocky complicated footpath. It starts off well and the lookout is lovely but the climb down the rocks is a challenge. You need good walking shoes and once you get to the bottom it’s hard to navigate past people going in the opposite direction.
Patience and youth is needed for this one!
We were ready to go for a swim but the water was a murky brown/green colour and the smell wasn’t good either. Basically we walked all the way down the treacherous rocky steps and then back up as there was NOWHERE to sit or leave bags. If you love a challenge… have a go!

It’s definitely worth making the difficult trek down to the bottom of the falls as it’s a nice place to swim. Getting to the bottom of the falls is very difficult over rugged slippery rocks & steep climbs. If you have mobility issues I certainly wouldn’t recommend to try it.
The access to the viewing platform is very easy, but, the falls are so much nicer from the bottom.
Very limited parking in the car park & toilets are available.

Easy walk to view dam.
Easy walk to top of falls - great view.
The walk to the bottom was very uneven and steep at times. Definitely wear secure shoes. Very rocky at bottom - do no attempt if you have any foot/leg/balance issues.
Some people were having a swim down there but we didn’t.
Suspect the recent rain meant decent amount of water.

Well worth the walk to the bottom a little bit slippery and steep in places you will a little bit of fitness and good balance in some areas, you can swim down there so take a towel

Recommend visiting but not with young children. The walk is too rocky & dangerous. Seems a good spot for older children & adults, water is refreshing after the walk on a hot day & it’s unspoilt. Recommend wearing good footwear for the walk down & taking thongs for going in the water. Was quite busy, we got parked ok but imagine it could be challenging if busier.

We had a fabulout visit to Killen Falls. The walk is not very long to get to it although parts of it are a bit rocky. The falls are so beautiful. Saw a turtle and fish in the water but the bottom of the water is rocky so I wore my thongs which made it a lot easier to get over to the water cascading down. Would definitely visit again

Took 2 young kids down as we go to many waterfalls. Difficult track from viewing platform to base... water murky uninviting. VERY DANGEROUS LOOKOUT have reported to NPWS and Lismore Council as a child will surely die! I didn't realise how my daughter had stuck her head into a photo i took... could have been her death if someone bumped her.

A friend and I will be exploring Byron Bay early next year. We won’t have a car to get around, any recommendations as to how to get to the beautiful Killen Falls without a car?
