Today I went to the cafe with my 2 adult sisters and 2 nephews, to stop and get some lunch and we were so disappointed with the lack of food.
We were going to order 3 jacket potatoes with cheese and tuna mayonnaise and 2 cheese and ham sandwiches...I was told Cheese, sandwiches and tuna had all run out. This was at 1.15/30pm in the Summer holidays.
While I was deciding what to order, instead of our original food, a few members of staff in the kitchen made a really rude, sarcastic comment, along the lines of " it's the end of the world, the cheese has finished".
We came here as a treat as we like Ashridge a lot but we will not be using the cafe again for food in the future.

Had a couple of hours to spare so we popped up to Ashridge and did a short walk in the woods, called in at visitor centre which had an interesting exhibition about how the popularity of Ashridge is causing environmental and ecological problems and how the NT is seeking methods and solutions to resolve these problems while still encouraging people to come and enjoy the Estate.
Had a gorgeous Judes icecream there which I was surprised to find was plantbased

Arrived hoping to order a scone, (as did the people before me in the queue) I was told we don't do scones anymore as it's only a takeaway service! There are only about 20 tables in their enclosed area!!!!!!!!
The other cakes didn't look very appealing as it was that or just pre-packaged offerings we just decided to order 2 teas. It was not busy so after waiting 10 minutes for my electronic beeper to go off to tell me someone had poured hot water on a teabag I gave up and asked for a refund. After several of minutes discussion between 4 members of staff I left with my refund

The Ashridge Estate covers a large area and there are plenty of walks you can take to explore the area. There is some really beautiful scenery to enjoy so have your phone or camera ready to capture what you see.
All the paths I was on were well tended and easy to navigate if you are surefooted.

Stunning location for the bakehouse cafe
Food and coffee good and helpful staff
Was very pleased to see they have a separate room which does NOT allow dogs
As an allergy sufferer this is important
I hope more establishments take note on this point
Its being inclusive for everyone
I do think however that the area where you order food should be dog free
You have to go to the counter to order and you will be near dogs which is not good for allergy sufferers

I visited the cafe in the grounds of Ashridge House this afternoon with my friend. I think it is called The Bakehouse. We have been here many times previously and the food used to be exceptional, being cooked by the chef in the main large house (which is used for business courses).
Today we visited and it was truly awful. I ordered a fish finger sandwich - the fish was completely tasteless and the bread was stale. The cakes on offer were obviously ordered in, cellophane wrapped, and not the previously bespoke offerings.
I asked the waiter if the food was no longer cooked by the chef in the main house and he confirmed the food for the cafe is now cooked in the cafe kitchen by someone else.
We won't be returning, and will now look for an alternative place to eat following our walks on the Ashridge Estate.

An expansive estate with plenty of parking and lots of walking trails.
We went to see the bluebells at Dockey Wood on the other end of the road estate. The car park is very limited and can get very busy on a good day. We parked further ahead near Dockey Wood and then saw a patch of bluebells nearby before walking the one mile to the NT area, which had paid entry.
It’s a surreal experience walking through the beautiful bluebells.

On a long bike ride I stopped for a snack at the NT cafe and ordered a Cornish pasty.
I think I got one of Lord Bridgewater's shoes, possibly from a mix up between the curators and the catering staff. This desiccated piece of cardboard must have been sitting in the warm cupboard since the 18th century. In addition to the tasteless dry pastry, the filling had been shrivelled to something resembling biltong, or maybe it was a homage to the clay that was used to line the canals that made the Lord his fortune. All this for £6. Perhaps I should have taken it to the Antiques Roadshow. Truly awful.

Stunning gardens and a lovely tea room too. So much to walk round that you’d want a day here if the weather is good! Highly recommended for all the family!

I so wanted to like this. 1st visit and will not be going back. Ordered Pancakes with maple syrup and bacon £9.50.
Got 3 tiny cold, dry hard pancakes with burnt dried out bacon on top. I had to send it back and ordered the French toast which was also not great. Fruit was part frozen!
Wanted to try this for my birthday breakfast. Wish we hadn't. The staff member did not seem bothered by my disappointment. Would not recommend.

Where and When,
I'm an amateur photographer looking to go snap some of the beautiful autumn colours. Now time wise I'm thinking the end of this month ( October), yes / no ?
Also I see from their web site there are two or three "self guided walks" and I'm wondering which would be best to walk to capture some good pictures. Really don't want to be walking all three walks.
So any help / advice would be welcome.
Thanks,

Hi Roland
There are plenty of trails that can be found by just taking some time and wandering by yourself throughout the woods. I have found just wandering through with my camera ready i have some pretty decent shots.
Also the bluebells offer pretty decent shots and there are plenty of paths and trails meaning you don't have to trample straight through them but get close enough to get some good shots.
Going up the monument will give you some decent views out over the surrounding area and to London beyond.

Have seen buggies for hire at the Bridgewater Monument, next to the National Trust Shop and cafe. I'd suggest calling the Trust - at the shop if possible - they would probably know. Hope it works out!

If you get out at Tring, and see Ashridge estate, can you also see the Ashridge house from outside? Or is that in another area altogether? I’d like to roam around the estate and have a picnic but then just see the house from outside.

Park at the monument and then cross the busy road and then you could walk to the house.
Escrita el 2 de agosto de 2018
Yes. The grounds are always open though the shop , cafe etc are not.

Can you bring good dogs? On leash?
Escrita el 11 de abril de 2018
Ashridge is an excellent place for dogs. If they are off the lead be careful if you venture close to the roads, as traffic can travel at speed towards Ringshall and the beacon.

Hi there, are there bluebells still in bloom at this time of the year? also, are we able to jog the trails rather than walk?
Escrita el 27 de septiembre de 2017
Bluebells are out towards the last week of April and beginning of May. There are two bluebell fields...Dockey Wood & How Wood, in Ringshall, HP2 4ND. You can also look at National Trust,Ashridge, website. Hope this helps.
