Malolo Island Resort Preguntas y respuestas

Ocupa el puesto n.º4 de 4 hoteles en isla de Malolo
Whangarei, Nueva Zelanda

Hi Kellie

we are from NZ and love Fiji, and try to go every year to try somewhere different in the Islands. We are staying at Malolo resort in June, and just wondered about the restaurants and food.

is it worthwhile doing the food plan, or just doing your own thing and ordering off the menu, as the food plans sound a bit expensive.

many thanks

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Just curious, did you end up doing the food plan? What did you think of it?

I know this was posted some time ago, but just wanted to add further detail for other readers re the food plans. For adults, yes, I would definitely recommend it. It works out about 20% cheaper, and there are surcharges for some of the more expensive dishes (some of the seafood choices). But it is still worth it. Details of those surcharges are available on Malolo's website.

For kids, up to about the age of 7 I would say the kids meal plan is ok. But after that, kids quickly notice the limited choices available on the "food plan menu" and you will be wondering if going a-la-carte would have been better. The problem with the kids menu (food plan menu) is that it is a daily set menu, so, for example, on a Tuesday the dinner choice may be something your kid doesn't like. And then you have to pay for additional items.

But as long as you are prepared for this, then perhaps go for the food plan, for peace of mind (and avoiding bill shock at the end). Malolo have some "kids eat free" specials (ask about these when booking) where as long as the adults are on the meal plan (full board), then the kids plan is thrown in free of charge.

Food quality is probably the best of any of the resorts, so no matter which way you go (food plan, or pay as you go) you will be quite happy. What we noticed is that we generally had a decent breakfast, a light lunch at the beach bar, then a full dinner.

Enjoy.

Hi Carolyn,

I would definitely do the food plan. They might sound a bit expensive but the variety and value is so totally worth it. As an exercise when we were there, I compared the cost if we ordered our food without being on the food plan and the plan won by miles.

Definitely worth the cost to do the plan.
