Is this a good central location to see both Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon? Trying to evaluate if we can stay in one place and do both.
We went to Four Corners and Monument Valley and then stayed here in Kayenta. The next day, we went to the Grand Canyon. It just depends on how much time you want to spend in each place. We got to the Grand Canyon in time to walk the rim trail and hike partway into the canyon and back. Then we walked the rim trail again to get back to the car. It can be done!
I’d say no, as we did Four Corners And Monument Valley and Canyon De Chelly National Monument.... all worth the side trips. We also took the boat ride on Lake Powell to Rainbow bridge in Page for the day and back to Kayenta. To do again, would have left Hampton Inn and when we went to Lake Powell, stayed in resort there that night rather than drive back to Hampton next morning doubling back on same route and head up to the Grand Canyon from Page. However, at Hampton Inn my absolute favorite experience was meeting and hearing the personal story from Mr Peter MacDonald as a Code Talker from WWII. What an amazing man and hearing his incredible historical account of the only unbreakable military code he helped develope was captivating. So if you book your stay there, make sure he is there for breakfast when you are there.
No not @ all for both.
I agree with everyone. We spent 2 days at Monument Valley. Hampton was wonderful. Keep in mind, as a Navajo Nation the time zone does not change and there is no alcohol. Grand Canyon is another beauty that you need a minimum of 2 days. Happy trails!
It's a great location for Monument Valley, and possibly for Canyon de Chelly, but I think it's a bit far to do a day trip to the Grand Canyon - probably close to a 3-hour drive one way.
You are about 30 minutes from Monument Valley, about 2 hours from Grand Canyon and that’s minimum. I’m not sure what your travel route is, but you might consider stopping at one place & seeing what you want to see, then go on to the next place. Both are worth the stop.
Great hotel but not for the Grand Canyon. According to Google Maps, 2:38 hr from Kayenta to the Grand Canyon Visitor's Center.
Very good hotel for Monument Valley, not convenient for Grand canyon.
Personally, I think it is far to Grand Canyon (I believe about 2 hours) and only about 1/2 hr to Monument Valley. Plus once you enter the Grand Canyon you will still be driving further away from the hotel if you plan to return afterward. So you should take that into consideration. You should probably allow several hours to view the canyon as there are several sightseeing stops along the way.
