Don't quite know where to start with this review. This is listed as a b&b, there is a bed in a room. When I booked we were advised there would be a share bathroom, but no other guests that week, & a downstairs bathroom existed as well. Firstly, I don't as a lady, enjoy sharing a toilet with 3 men. Two of whom had no sense of cleanliness. And they used the upstairs and downstairs toilets, so there was no escape. I was happy when they left, until I worked out I needed to clean the toilet before I could use it for the next few days. Breakfast is a cupboard outside the bathroom, with a bowl of fruit on it. We had to ask for bread to toast, and old looking cereal in jars. Interesting the proprietor never enquired as to food allergys or preferences. So we basically brought our own tea and ate breakfast out. We were informed breakfast was only on the weekends, if time allows. That would have been handy to know. If you are elderly, do not book this place. The stairs to the rooms are too steep & narrow, my husband with 2 knee surgerys behind him, had to walk backwards down them for safety. Very glad I didn't bring my fur baby at the last minute, he would have been miserable and would have face planted going down the stairs as well. The room was never cleaned, bed never made, heating not turned on at night when we got in late, garbage not removed ever, rough old towels, old scruffy furniture, saw proprietor once the whole trip, except when my husband had to walk downstairs to ask for water. I do not understand the high ratings for this place, it is out of the way, & unless you have a torch or a phone torch don't come in after dark as the path to the door to the rooms has no lighting, & are very uneven & hospitality is non existent. This would be a 0 out of 10 from us. Overall Perth does b&b's very poorly, & This is just another poor example.

We chose this place as it allowed our Chihuahua and the photos looked nice. We were told to meet the proprietor there at 2pm, which was when we had said we would arrive. She said she'd be at a Melbourne Cup Lunch. Arrived at 1-50pm. No one came. We took one look at the very steep stairs and my companion wouldn't be able to use them. She barely managed the verandah steps, which had no rails. Belinda, the proprietor, advised us that she would help carry luggage up. She said she had imbibed a little and wouldn't be driving home, but would be there at 4-4-30pm. I did climb the steps, and viewed the room. A lot smaller than it looked on the booking website. Looked clean. Belinda asked for $80 cancellation fee. When I first viewed the place, I said "What a dump". The decking needed re coating and looked poorly maintained, the outdoor furniture looked weathered. There looked to be a nice lawn out the back and the surroundings were quiet. We are both aged pensioners and have been saving for ages to have a little getaway after my treatment for Cancer. Perhaps I'm getting cynical in my old age, but I can't help but wonder how many other people have had to pay $80 and leave their booking after seeing those stairs. A photograph of those stairs would be a valuable aid for anyone who, like us, is elderly. I cannot understand the positive reviews of this property. The owner recommended another B&B, for $145 per night. Our booking was for $170 for 2 nights. After $80 cancellation fee, that left us unable to afford our little break. We went back home and we shall never use the Internet to book a holiday again.

I absolutely adore this place! It takes a lot for me to rave about accomodation but this place for me was faultless From the picture book drive through Perth Hills , up the country roads to the red earth winding road that leads to Darlington House sits tucked away ready to reveal a sanctuary flowIng with peace, nature and serene surroundings Belinda and her two lovely dogs greeted me with a warm welcome. The house is like stepping back in time but with modern and clean amenities. My room (Amethyst) is up stairs and located at the tip,of the house. It is beautifully decorated and has the most comfy bed with Way lit your bedding, towels, to, fridge and a selection of DVDs The balcony is divin and looks out over established gardens, a pool , birds and kangaroos . The views are sheer nature at its best! Belinda provided a beautiful and fresh continental brekky and for $15 ( as of October 2017) delicious home cooked dinner which she brought to my room. The walks nearby are heavenly with a winter brook and rugged pathways. If you're looking for a real gem of calmness, only 50 minutes form Perth CBD but could be a million miles away, with a fabulous host family who respect your space , noise is minimal but also invite you to join them for a chat if you want to don't look anywhere else because this is my accomodation recommendation of 2017!
