We had a wonderful stay at Findochty Holiday Cottage. The location is picture-perfect, the cottage is clean, cozy, and comfortable and has everything you need to feel right at home. It was very convenient to be able to do laundry at the cottage and the kitchen was well equipped for preparing our own meals. The grocery items provided at arrival were very thoughtful and appreciated. We enjoyed the location and the beautiful coastal trail system on which you can walk between Findochty and the other villages in the area (Portknockie, Cullen, Portessie, Buckie). From the cottage, you can easily drive to many of the distilleries in the Speyside region. Balvenie distillery (my favourite!) was about a 40 minute drive from the cottage, Glenfarclas (my other favourite!) was about a 45 minute drive. Many others are closer. *Note: if you are driving and want to partake of whisky tastings, some distilleries offer a kit with small bottles for you to put your samples in, other distilleries (most) require that you bring your own bottles. We found a handy kit of 6 small bottles at the Gordon & MacPhail store in Elgin.* My husband was driving, so we routinely bottled up his whisky samples to enjoy later that evening. In addition to distilleries, of which there are obviously many, you can reach Cairngorm National Park in about an hour. The Cairngorm Reindeer herd hill walk was a lot of fun and there are tons of hiking trails in the park too. There are plenty of castles, cathedrals, breweries and other things to keep you busy in the area around Findochty (pronounced: Finechty) too - Windswept Brewery in nearby Lossiemouth is great - and the nearby towns are also nice to visit. Would definitely recommend Findochty Holiday Cottage as a home-base for anyone visiting the area and we really hope to make it back again soon! Thanks to Clare as well for responding to my emails so quickly and for the helpful tips and recommendations! :-)
