This cottage is brilliantly placed for the city centre (just 5 mins walk) and the walk round the city walls ( 2 miles but if you take it easy and read all the signage, it'll take over an hour and probably more). It was fascinating to see the tidal River Dee rising and falling from the sitting room and bedroom windows with the abundant wildlife on display: swans, ducks, moorhen, coots and heron. The cottage itself is fully equipped and comfortable and had the extra touch of a bottle of wine, breakfast cereals, choc bars and milk. Very thoughtful. We slept really well too. Although there isn't any continuous parking next to the cottage (30 mins only 7 days a week), there is the very convenient Grosvenor car park just up the road provided you ask the landlord's permission. At this time of year the trees drop a lot of resinous sap so be prepared to wipe your windows!

We absolutely loved Driftwood Cottage. It’s in a perfect location for quick access to the city, for walks along the river and also easy to get out of the city and access the highways. Driftwood cottage is a magical little place, calm, cozy and completely private. Although there is traffic going across the bridge you cannot hear a thing inside the cottage. We would highly recommend the cottage and would stay there again if given the opportunity. Perfect size for 2 adults.

This is our 6th stay at Driftwood and I think that speaks for itself! Just such a delightful cottage with everything you could wish for and the location is perfect. The bed is so comfortable and the cottage is spotlessly clean. Right on the River Dee providing fabulous views - we saw a Kingfisher, cormorants, grebes, herons, ducks and paddle boarders! You could sit for hours watching them all. Independent shops a two minute walk away with a Co-Op just up the road. Ideal for walking the walls and walking into town. Betty and John think of everything and arranged parking for us at the Grosvenor Arms Pub which is a 5 minute walk away (£20 for the week). What a cottage! It's rare that something is better than expected, but even the five-star reviews didn't prepare me. The location is ideal for Chester and Wales... and oh my, the birdwatching!! I was torn between watching the heron outside the window or the Wimbledon final! We were incredibly grateful for the comfortable beds and the washing machine. Lovely little cottage in a quiet location. We hope to be back very soon.

Sitting on the banks of the River Dee it provides wonderful views of birdlife coming and going on the river and yet it is just a few minutes walk from the centre of town - a brilliant combination. The cottage itself is well equipped , very clean and nicely decorated. The bed is comfy and all the facilities are as we wanted them to be - could'nt ask for better. Importantly the owners are easily contactable and accomodating , and I would certainly stay there again.

another 2 week stay in this lovely cosy cottage set on the river dee i think this is our 6th stay and we have loved it every time the perfect place to walk into chester to the masses of shops and loads of places to visit and loads of pubs so great nightlife and then you have the cottage set in lovely peace and quiet open the window and you are looking down on the river and you can feed the ducks and birds and sit and eat yourselves while watching them you really can't go wrong thank you john and betty for letting us stay again and we hope to be back soon.

We had a fantastic stay in this lovely cottage. Thank you to such wonderful hosts! We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary and it could not have been better. The cottage has all that you need, and the location on the river front, and right next to the bridge into Chester is excellent. We also benefitted from the heatwave weather, finding the cottage wonderfully cool considering the outside temperatures! Highly recommend this cottage. You won't be disappointed.

Hubby and I decided to holiday in Chester for a few days. We have only visited for the day once before, and been to the zoo once. What an absolute gem of a find this cottage is. We arrived after a horrific journey which took 10 hours from Newcastle due to a fire on M62. Betty had telephoned me and arranged and paid for parking at the nearby grosvenor arms, so we went to check in there and got a wonderful welcome. (see separate review.) When we got to the cottage we were not disappointed. What a wonderful property. I was instantly captured by the sound of the river outside, and the view at twilight was beautiful. There was milk and bread left. Plus wine, and a little basket in the kitchen containing all sorts of goodies. The staircase needs negotiation but I knew that before I booked. I'm 6ft 2 and not of small build, with large feet and rather clumsy so getting around the spiral was no mean feat! 😂😂😂We unpacked our clothes downstairs and carried them up. And I also discovered that coming down backwards was far easier! There I'd loads of wardrobe space in the mezzanine, plenty of hangers too, and a smaller wardrobe in the bedroom. There's a lovely dressing table with mirror, hair drier, and even straighteners ♥ Bed is more comfortable than mine at home! Slept so well during our stay. Downstairs bathroom contains a lovely walk in shower, and there's even a washing machine and drier. We really loved coming back to the cottage after our daily adventures and had a couple of nice lazy mornings with coffee and the window wide open appreciating the view. Aside from the cottage, we found some gems in Chester. A walk along the Groves is a must. We lived the bud and boat trips. For a fabulous independant Italian restaurant Sergios is a must. (not a fan of chain restaurants ) We went twice. Best calzone I've ever had, and fillet steak on our last night to die for. Not Only that the staff are so welcoming and friendly. The head waiter remembered us from 1st visit. We had a lovely meal at the Ship next door. Steak pie highly recommended. Really nice pub. Brown Sugar cafe opposite also a gem. Only discovered on last day. We ordered a takeaway breakfast and extra toast to share and it fed 2 of us, and we are good eaters! Wonderful couple running it. Lovely meal and extremely friendly service at The Handbridge. I never ever have burgers when I'm out but the Mexican burger and chunky chips were divine. Amazing welcome from Brad and staff at The Grosvenor Arms. We went most days for a drink and managed to get a table for the England match where we won 4.0. Happy days. We can not fault the cottage, handbridge, and Chester. We absolutely can't wait to return. Betty and John are wonderful hosts, so friendly, and have thought of everything.
