We loved staying in Amboise and loved staying at Chantal's place - La Porte Bleue. She was (and is), the perfect host. The little apartment is very cozy and and right outside your window and across the river, is the Amboise castle. There are two bedrooms, and nice size bathroom, and a full kitchen. There was a fridge but no freezer, but I am sure Chantal has one you could plug in if needed. It's really not necessary as the food market is 10 minutes away on foot and when we needed something frozen - a pizza, for example, we just ran over to the store and got it. There was a ginormous dining table and a cozy little desk. There is also a sitting/living room area. Chantal also allowed us to use the washer and dryer in the basement. She is a perfect and most wonderful host and we felt so comfortable there. The staircase is windy and up a couple stories up but once you are there, everything is on one level, which was really perfect for us. It made everything very easy. We will return here again!!! We loved it!!!!

Amazing!
My three adult/teenage children and I stayed here back in 2013 (wasn't able to put the correct year in, sorry) and I apologize for only now writing this review Chantal! The location is absolutely perfect, handy to everything and the view of the chateau across the river is stupendous. Everything was provided in the apartment that you could possibly need and there is a great market nearby. There are many sights to see in the vicinity...we visited Chateau de Chenonceaux and the wine caves at Monmousseau with Chantal, so much fun. Chantal's commentary really added so much to our understanding and enjoyment. A huge hit with my kids in particular was a visit to the Leonardo da Vinci museum at the Chateau de Clos Luce. We had so much fun here it was hard to leave, a lot of that due to the welcome provided by Chantal.

Perfect location
We weren't sure if we were going to be able to go ahead with this holiday (which i'd booked last year) because of the current situation, but thankfully we were able to. So very very glad that we made it. Absolutely perfect holiday in beautiful Amboise. Chantal is so very lovely & made us very welcome after a long long drive. The location of Porte Bleau is perfect. The view is just gorgeous looking through the window over the river & seeing the chateau.The walk from the accommodation is very pleasant indeed, over the bridge & into the heart of this little town. The terraces are inbetween the chateau walls & beautiful old buildings , most of them cafe's, restaurants & gift shops. The accommodation was lovely. We were three adults,& there was plenty of room. Sofas & beds were very comfortable too. We had everything we needed & Chantal was at hand if we did need anything. All in all, a wonderful place.

A wonderful apartment with a fab view!
We used this as a home base for our tour of the chateau country. It was great! Our host was very helpful. La Porte Bleue is located very close to shops and restaurants.
The 2 weekly markets were a treat with loads of great fruits and vegetables. The grocery in Amboise was not the best, we should have bought more at the market.

Beautiful View in Amboise
Arrived and was oriented to this charming apartment by the owner`s friend: A two bedroom apartment with sky lights with a comfortable living room, dining room, and well equipped kitchen, separate toilet, shower (yes real shower) and the loveliest of views of the castle across the river: (Entry can be challenging for anyone with mobility issues.) The decor is quite French, no Ikea any where so you feel like you are in old France.Lighting is plentiful. Beds are comfortable. Instructions outlined for clean-up: Easy to walk across the bridge where there are many restaurants and conveniences. Parking is available with multiple spots near the river. Felt very safe here. Nice to have AC. This was a good fit for us traveling with adult son. Many chateaus just a short drive away. Highly recommend.

Conveniently, Scenically Delightful
We booked The Blue Door on the strength of the purported view, and it did not disappoint. The Amboise Chateau, across the River, is the main window’s panorama. Breathtaking. The 4 of us made this cozy space home for a week, cooking on occasion and settling in comfortably. A short 10 minute walk from the train station; a 5 minute walk across the bridge into the heart of the village. Chantal is a joyful and accommodating host. The only caveat is that the space, located on the second floor above a walk out basement, is not suitable for the mobility impaired. Access is only via a narrow and tight staircase leading from that walk out cellar. Otherwise, it is a delightful and comfortable, slightly quirky-feeling place to call home for a few days.

The most beautiful place to stay in the Loire
Such a beautiful apartment with a spectacular view of the Chateau. Chantal has everything you could ever need for your holiday and is very helpful with suggestions of restaurants and sights to see. She also sent above and beyond to return an item we left behind. We spent 5 nights here and didn't want to leave. Highly recommended!

Très bon contact avec Chantal, la propriétaire, charmante, soucieuse du bien-être de ses hôtes et même très professionnelle. L'appartement du 1er étage est très confortable, super propre, bien chauffé, calme et pratique. La liaison internet est très bonne. Le grand atout est surtout l'emplacement de choix par rapport à la ville d'Amboise. La vue magnifique sur le château donne l'impression de rentrer dans l' Histoire avec un grand H . On sent aussi la vie des nombreux oiseaux sur la Loire qui est à nos pieds , tout en étant en centre ville (paradis pour les photographes) .

Beautiful setting in a unique and cozy upstairs apartment.
Our stay in The Blue Door (La Porte Bleue) was delightful. The photos of the interior and the views from the windows are entirely accurate. Waking up to drink coffee and look out on the Loire River and the Chateau de Amboise on the opposite bank was amazing. The nightscape was even more spectacular. Staying on the island meant we were close to the water, away from the traffic, and could easily walk across the bridge to Old Town and enjoy all the sights of Amboise. Chantal is a friendly, helpful host, and we appreciated her introduction to the town and nearby sights. We shared the upstairs apartment with our daughter and son-in-law, and we all loved the experience. Carved out of what was once the attic of this structure, the beams and some structural elements were quite historic but the interior walls and floors were modern and lovely. It was convenient to have access to the washer and dryer in the walk-out cellar/storage area. We even enjoyed having to bend our necks to come and go through the historically ancient wooden door with a a huge skeleton key for locking it. Our apartment and the entire city of Amboise were delightful.

The Perfect Place to Stay in Amboise
My wife and I stayed in the ground floor La Porte Bleue apartment for 4 nights in May 2017. Chantal was very helpful in providing information about the local area and could converse very well in English. The apartment had a very well appointed kitchen, a nice bathroom, a comfortable bed and a great view of the chateau. The view at night was also impressive when the chateau was bathed in lights. We really enjoyed the bicycles that were provided. We rode them every day including a trip by bike to see the Chenonceau chateau. The local open air market provided outstanding fresh fruits and vegetables that we used in preparing our meals at the apartment. The train station was very close by which was nice for us as we arrived and departed on the train. All in all it was a perfect place to stay in Amboise. We could not have had a better place to stay.
