We visited Rome as a family of 5 for the first time. Giacomo was excellent in communication building up to the trip, and because he would be away during our trip linked us up with Raffaele, who turned out to be very helpful, welcoming us on the day, offering tips and advice for places to visit, and responding quickly when we had an issue with the WiFi in the apartment.
The apartment is in a classic block. The children loved accessing the apartment via the traditional lift! The air conditioning made a huge difference for us, meaning we could be out in the heat of the day (mid 30’s C), and quickly cool off when back, meaning we all slept well! We also found another apartment host on the ground floor additionally helpful in offering advice about accessing the local area. The apartment is secure, with good locks on the door. We found the apartment to be clean and well maintained in preparation for our stay, with perfectly adequate facilities for our family (2 adults, 3 children ages 17, 15, 8).
We stayed for 8 nights. There were one or two nights where there was a lot of movement in the apartment above us which created the sound of dragging of furniture across the wooden floor. However, this didn’t last long and wouldn’t put us off coming again; the otherwise great facilities, location and price far outweigh this minor & temporary issue.
The location was perfect - local shops for all the things we needed for our stay, and a fantastic ice cream shop literally on the corner of our block! We walked to all of the places we wanted to visit, including the colosseum, which I think was about 40 mins walk; on the way back you don’t notice it as you can stop off in the city centre for food/drink. (By the way get to the colosseum early both from the perspective of not being out in the heat if you’re queuing and if you pre-book you need to arrive ahead of your slot, which we didn’t and I think we were lucky to still get in for our time slot!)
Rome really is a beautiful place to visit if you are looking for fantastic & historic architecture, a bustling vibrant cultural experience, with great food!
*there is a negative review (Oct 2019, 2 stars), which is think is completely out of keeping with our experience, and the experience of others who have left reviews. We found the host to be highly responsive to any concerns we had and would recommend to all visitors to communicate concerns with the host at the time they arise.
