I had high expectations when I booked the Crows Nest and I wasn’t disappointed. The apartment is in an excellent position and it really does have a fantastic view of the sea, both from the living area, and the roof terrace. Serena is a very attentive host, providing good communication throughout booking, during the lead up and while you are staying. Check in was easy. We opted to let ourselves in, but Serena offers to meet guests too if that is preferred. The accommodation was great, everything you need for a holiday break, including a full-size oven, although I didn’t use it, being on holiday and all!! I was particularly impressed by the full-length mirror, which is one of my bug bears usually, as one is rarely supplied in holiday accommodation.
There were lots of nice personal touches on arrival, such as milk, jam, butter, part baked rolls, muffins to name but a few, and a lovely bottle of bubbly, which we managed to enjoy on the roof terrace before the weather took a turn for the not so good. Also, plenty of cleaning supplies, dishcloths, towels, washing up liquid, hand soap, sanitiser etc. Serena also supplied small toiletries, another nice touch, and very handy if you’ve forgotten to pack them. WiFi was excellent, connected straightaway and we never had a problem with it while we were there.
There is no parking space for the Crows nest, but Serena was very clear about this when we booked. However, there is a payable car park just down the hill or free parking up the hill along the road, which goes past the park. Whilst we did have to look for a space each time we returned, there was never an occasion when we weren’t able to park, and it was then a five-minute walk back to the apartment. Don’t let this put you off, it really was not a problem. The only downside was the seagulls (or were they dinosaurs?!) decided our car was fair game for target practice, I’ve since read that red cars are a particular favourite!
While you are there have a walk through the park and onto the path along the coast, its really pretty. Also the botanical gardens are just up the road and we visited curtesy of Serena who provided a pass for 2 people in the apartment. Another really nice touch and well worth a visit.
I’m not sure we will return to the Island, this was a nostalgia tour for me, as I grew up on the South coast of England just over the water and used to visit a lot as a child, but if we do, then we wont hesitate in staying at the Crows Nest again and thoroughly recommend it as a base for your Island travels.
