We stayed in the apartment at the beginning of May for 4 nights. Marino (the owner) arranged to meet us at the train station and drive us to the apartment. Along the way, he pointed out the location of the main shopping district, some grocery stores, and the bus stops to/from Venice. When we arrived at the apartment, Marino showed us around, and provided a bunch of information about the area (restaurants, shops, etc), as well as which buses to catch to get to Venice. He also gave us bus passes to get into Venice since it was a Sunday and we would not be able to purchase any in Mestre as the stores were closed.
The apartment itself is really nice, and was spotless when we arrived. It is quite large, with lots of seating for everyone. The beds were comfortable, and the bedrooms have lots of storage. Both bathrooms were nice, and there is good water pressure in the showers. The washing machine works well, and there is a drying rack and clothes line to dry your clothes. The kitchen is nice, but could use a few more sharp knives for chopping veggies/doing food prep, and a new cutting board or two. Other than that, it was great. All the basics are stocked - tea, coffee, sugar, salt, olive oil, and vinegar. There are lots of pots and pans to cook with as well.
The apartment is about 2 minutes walk from the bus stop to and from Venice, and the bus ride is 15-25 minutes, depending on how busy it is. It was really convenient, and it runs until quite late (around midnight), so we were able to stay in Venice in the evening and still catch the bus home. It might seem like a hassle to stay in Mestre, but considering the cost savings per night and the easy transit connections, it was a great option.
