Grooms cottage ., musty smell on arrival ., whole house desperately needs airing .
Kitchen adequate but dirty mugs left in cupboard and antique chairs base s falling out.
Breakfast basket disgraceful for price paid per room both in quantity & quality !!
Access for wheelchair not adequate pathways very uneven and gravel is no good for pushing a wheelchair either .,
Would not stay again unfortunately!!

No privacy, not clean
We booked to stay in 2 bed cottage, The Coach House as we were guests at a wedding. As no reception facility we pre paid £155 for 1 night the other couple paid £145. We arrived at accommodation and first thing I saw as we walked through the door were the dirty glass ring marks on the tray next to the sofas - not been cleaned. The other couple who paid lower price bedroom was at back of cottage through a door. We found our room was up a narrow steep spiral staircase that was blocked by hoover, ironing board etc which we had to move before being able to use stairs. Once upstairs we found that the bedroom was completely open on a mezzanine level offering zero privacy when anyone was using the kitchen/lounge area below! There was a skylight directly above the bed with no blind so this meant a very harsh awakening at 4.30am when sun came up - not relaxing or peaceful. I went in the bathroom to find hairs on the floor including pubic hairs and the light fittings not finished as majority were hanging out the ceiling not secured! There was a dead fly on stone shelf that had obviously been there some time and the dust and cobwebs on shelf above bed also clearly there for some time. On all of the correspondence leading up to booking we had been told there would be a luxury hamper on our arrival including local produce etc there was no sign of this. When we left the cottage to go to wedding reception Dale was coming out cottage next door and I mentioned about the missing hamper - he was very vague and just said Oh yes we haven't got round to that - I'l get it sorted - nothing ever came. All the above points taken into account meant we did not get a restful or relaxing sleep and with the early wake up call as a result of no blind we couldn't even make a cup of tea/coffee as nothing had been left for us by way of hamper!
I emailed Dale when we got home to say how disappointed we were at what we expected was going to be a luxurious experience as billed in the literature and website and queried the justification of a premium rate - he replied to say ' The pricing of the room is based on the fact that this is a mezzanine room and has all the character of the building itself in it such as the beautiful stone walls'
Personally I rate privacy and the chance to have a relaxing sleep with blinds or curtains higher than stone wall!
With regards the obvious lack of cleaning to the point I would say it was dirty Dale's response was 'due to the tight deadline of the venue we were all busy on the venue itself and did not get around these .' I feel this was a very dismissive response to a justified complaint. We were paying guests for the evening and at £155 for room only 1 night this did not represent value for money at all. I'm aware there was a wedding taking place (we were guests at it) but it felt like we were neglected rather than treated as a valued customer.
This review is no way a reflection of the wedding itself which was lovely this is our feedback on what was a very disappointing experience and the after care we received has done nothing to improve our opinion.
