My friends & I came here for a weekend due to an event in the area. After arriving we quickly discovered all wasn’t what it seemed.
The host, Anne, after giving instructions how to get in, neglected to reply to any of our other emails; even when we said we may have been attending the same charity event that evening (thinking we could pop & say hello) except that Anne preferred to just ignore our email instead. We didn’t see her for our whole stay. Not on arrival or exit. This was a clear indication of how our stay was going to pan out.
Firstly, the cottage was not the warm & welcoming hideaway that was advertised. It was freezing as the radiators were all turned off despite it being middle of winter. It was also just not clean enough for a let. The carpets are filthy with a charming wet dog scent to accompany it. Most noticeably, we found animal hair not only on the sofas but also in our beds. One of us also suffers allergies to animal hair & spent the weekend uncomfortable with sore eyes & scratchy throat.
There was also not room for 6 people at the cottage. The sofa bed is no longer of standard for rent, there isn’t room for 6 people on the dining table or on the sofas, and 1 small shower room is not enough for this amount of people. It’s also worth noting that we had to move the sofas in order to have room for the sofa bed to stretch out fully as the sofa bed was at the side blocking off access to the kitchen.
The wifi just didn’t work, with us repeatedly trying to connect only to say the password wasn’t correct (how very thoughtful to change the password so your guests can’t use if?) & it’s not like we could ask for the new one either, as of course, Anne was nowhere to be seen.
Initially, we were impressed that they provided a continental breakfast with the cottage- except that this is a lie. For 6 of us, we were left a childrens 6 pack of mini cereals (for 6 adults for 2 nights) & not enough milk for them all either. We also were left a handful of mini jams with nothing to put them on. So basically none of what was promised on the advert.
Overall, it was a shambles. The idealistic “Welcomed on arrival with tea & coffees” spiel all over the advertisement is just absolute lies. I’m genuinely amazed they’ve gotten away with it all with previous guests.
Don’t waste your money.

We thank you for your review and would like to say that as owners we try our hardest to greet our guests but sometimes we are not available and make alternative arrangements for guests to get access to the keys.
We do not allow animals in the cottage so we are unable to explain the hairs or the smell especially as we use odour neutralisers.
Our guests have full access to the heating system together with instructions for it’s use so that they can be totally comfortable but individual radiators cannot be closed off.
We have always had the option of two double sofa beds in the living room so neither one needs to be moved.
We have now installed the wi-fi extender in the living room of the cottage so that our guests have a strong signal, can wire directly to it and reset it if required.
Our accommodation is advertised as self catered but we do go the extra mile to provide our guests with a starter pack to get them over the first morning especially if they are late arriving.
We are sorry the accommodation was not to your or your friends liking but most of our guests over the last six years have found the cottage warm, welcoming, comfortable and in great surroundings.

Filthy and unwelcoming
24th November 2018
We booked this cottage as a group of 6 adults as we were in the area for a family event and thought the charges were reasonable.
It became quite apparent that once Anne had received the payment in full (which I did in advance of our booking) she no longer gave a damn about our experience.
The day before arrival I had to contact Anne to get an explanation of how we would get access to the property - surely this should have been volunteered by the owners rather than me having to chase them down?! I was curtly informed that they would not be there to greet us (our estimated arrival was 6pm not exactly late!)
Upon arrival, the keys were just left in the door for us, we were welcomed by a strong smell of wet dog - I am allergic to cat and dog hair! The carpets and sofas were all stained and disheveled. Rather dangerously the carpet is coming away from the stairs causing a trip hazard! We found dog hairs IN the beds and cobwebs in just about ever corner. The sofas had been arranged in such a way that if you had opened the sofa bed you wouldn’t have been able to get to the kitchen - so we had to switch them around.
We then went out for an evening with our family following the instructions to ‘leave the key in the back of the door’ (not very secure!). We returned to find the cottage freezing - the hosts had not thought to pre-set the heating despite it being a rainy late November!
Trouble was they were no where to be found to report any of these issues?!
We stayed for 2 nights and did not see sight nor evidence of the owners. Neither did they do us the courtesy to just pop there heads in introduce themselves or check we were ok. If they had we could have reconciled some of the issues, like the loo not flushing properly or the WiFi dropping out or the fact they had neglected to supply the ‘continental breakfast’ we had apparently paid for! A kids six pack of cereal for 6 adults over 2 days does not really suffice.
It’s a shame really because the cottage could have be a delightful bijou enclave as the location in the village was so peaceful but the stay was tarnished by the complete lack of botheration by the owners.
Wash the sheets, shampoo the carpets and if you advertise WiFi and a continental breakfast make sure you supply them - THIS. IS. BASIC. HOSPITALITY.

Wonderful location cottage
Being from around this area i had never been to Bottesford, my bad. The village is really nice and with 3 play parks, some great walks, good places to eat, nice friendly pubs, it certainly has something for everyone.
Anne and Dermot were really great, very helpful and a good source of local information. Lots of pets which the kids enjoyed.
Cottage is a bit of a tardis, looks small from the outside but really quite roomy once you get inside. Peaceful location, great walking down to the river to feed the ducks.
Very enjoyable stay.

Would love to go back
We stayed here in October 2016. Anne and Dermot were very helpful and friendly. The cottage was lovely and cosy. Lots of useful information was available. We could have easily tried to kidnapped the dogs and cats! Lovely and quiet, but only a few minutes walk from shops and restaurants. Will definitely try and stay there again.

AGRADABLE ESTANCIA
Esperamos volver.

very charming little cottage
We really enjoyed our stay. Very nice small cottage, even with 3 teenagers we weren't in each others way. The owners were friendly and helpful but gave us plenty of space despite living so close by. We would be more than happy to stay again.

Excellent !!
Stayed in Bottesford Cottage for bank holiday weekend in August because we were visiting family in Grantham. This cottage is adorable. Jane, Dermot and their children are lovely and were there to greet us and show us around the cottage. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, down to kitchen equipment, towels, toiletries, dvd player & dvd's, iron etc, etc. My 4 year old absolutely loved the animals which roam freely in the owners garden outside the cottage, there are hens, cats, dogs, even horses. Jane and Dermot are around if you need them and they cater for your every need. We chose the English breakfast option and was amazed at what was supplied for us.. bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, milk, butter, cereals, jams. To sum it up, this place is a real find, its affordable, its beautiful, it has everything you need and has a real charm. We will not hesitate to go back. Thank you Jane and Dermot. We loved it. xxx

This place is lovely, sadly let down by not being hovered for months, spiders and mice also staying!
This is a beautiful little cottage with everything you could need in a fab village, unfortunately let down as very dirty, especially the carpets, skirting, under sofas, did not look like it had been hoovered in months! cobwebs and spiders everywhere and then discovered we had mice and mouse droppings behind the beds. Jars on kitchen shelf, full of mould, dirty dish cloths On the sink. Thankfully the shower and toilet were clean! A lovely place but let down by simple things! Told owner On departure that we found it dirty and there was mice, didn't seem faded and did not reduce the cost, we won't be returning!

Lovely Home from Home
If you are looking for an idyllic village location and a lovely home from home, you need look no further. This is the place for you.
The location is great at the back of the village with no through traffic, yet close to the main shopping street. There's views outside across open fields and the owners allow you to use their garden like it is your own (without the weeding).
There's a wealth of animals that make themselves at home here too. There's chickens, 7 cats and 3 dogs. The cats in particular make themselves at home in the cottage, which we absolutely loved (although a relative who was allergic was not so keen). Look out for Posher the cat, who I had to say, nearly got snuck into our bag for a trip over to Australia!
The cottage was very tidy when we moved in with nice bed linen and comfy single beds.
I have found this a very, very difficult property to rate as we loved it, and actually went back there for a few extra nights rather than going to another hotel in Grantham we had booked and paid for.
In the end I have had to rate it 4 star rather than 5 as we had a few problems with heating (I believe that they are on top of these issues now) and when we first moved in, and the wifi was down for most of our stay (we were just unlucky as they were changing providers). There was also a mouse in residence which is to be expected given it's location and to be honest the cats soon sorted it out. I also think that guests should be warned that cats are likely to have been in, just in case they are allergic. My nephew for example couldn't have stayed there and was getting some quite serious reactions after just a few minutes.
Having said all that, this is a lovely, lovely place that I can't recommend enough.

February Half Term Break
Pretty cottage, nice location, helpful owner. Our 5 night break was spoilt by the breakdown of hot water and central heating system for 4days, and we were unable to contact the owner for 24 hours prior to our departure
