Where to begin?
This villa has the potential to be so much more. As travelers we have been to over 85 countries and stayed at a myriad of properties. Villa Alise is typical of much inexpensive construction in developing nations with ill-fitting windows, large undercuts in doors and unfinished rooflines, walls etc. Being tropical there are geckos inside the house that hang out on the walls and ceilings and keep the insect population down. There is also an endless parade of ants so make sure to bring lots of Ziploc plastic bags to keep food items safe from the uninvited guests.
We arrived for a 1 week stay and immediately liked the layout and pool/patio area. However, for some reason, the owner had locked off one of the rooms. While we are a couple and didn’t need the room, we did rent the ENTIRE villa and as such should have access to the entire home. No biggie, not a deal breaker, but it did seem strange, nonetheless.
Next up we had advance ordered dinner our first night. The meal was prepared and tasty but the next day we were presented with a bill that was 2x’s the prices we were quoted or listed on their menu. It took lots of conversation and back and forth with the villa staff to get this straightened out. Yes, we were able to rectify the error, but it took precious time and energy from our holiday.
The villa is located in a rural area about a 20-minute drive outside of Central Ubud. We chose this remote location for the quiet and to be removed from the crazy noise and tourists in the Central area. Like most things, timing is everything! The adjacent rice fields were being cleared for planting and as such the local farmer used a gas-powered plow/roto tiller each day from about 7am to 5pm. We don’t begrudge him working, but unfortunately there was constant background noise as a result. Obviously, this is NOT the fault of the villa owner but just something to be considered when renting. The clearing of the fields also chased rats out of the rice paddies and onto the property of the villa. Particularly the exterior patio of the villa. One day we had 4 rats scurry across the patio while we were in the pool and reading on the patio. Being city girls…we were not thrilled. Where there are rats outside, inevitably they will find their way inside. By our 4th night, we spotted a rat inside! Yikes!!! We contacted the owner who understood the dilemma. While the villa staff worked to catch the rat, they were ultimately unsuccessful, and we ended up leaving the property early. The owner was professional, quickly refunded our money and expressed his sincerest apologies.
So, the takeaway: The villa is located in a rural area where rats and other creatures may be present. The rice paddies are working fields and as such there may be noise associated with that work. Farming is seasonal and the rice paddies adjacent to the property may be mud pools waiting for planting and not the picturesque rice fields as seen in photos. It is a different kind of beauty…and may not be what you may expect. We commend the owner for responding to our concerns but overall it was less than a stellar experience.

Place to Unwind
This cozy Villa with its quiet rice fields surrounding and fresh air is a perfect place to rest and unwind. With its big swimming pool to enjoy with family and friends makes it also a perfect place for small gathering. The interior is natural as much as it can, and modern in where it must - easy to live in.
Last but not least, the friendly staffs made us feel at home.

Great escape from busy life
An amazing Villa surrounded by padi fields. Fresh air. A great escape from our busy life.
We can take a morning walk to Manuaba water fall, visit Manuaba Temple, or strolling around the padi fields and traditional Balinese houses.
When there is a ceremony held at the temple, local people will pass by in front of the Villa wearing traditional costume toward the temple. We can see beautiful decorations in front of their houses.What a stunning experience at a very close distance.
Very remommended place to stay, definitely will come back again.

Wonderful Place to Stay!
Had a really great time staying here! The place was really comfortable, the view was amazing, surrounded by beautiful field. The pool was clean and the service was nice. A good place for family and friends gathering. Highly recommended!

Beautiful and spacious villa for family and friends

Beautiful vila !
Such an amazing place to relax and spend time with your loved ones. Set in the middle of rice fields, away from fumes and traffic of Ubud. It’s very tranquil and peaceful. The pool is nice and big enough for the entire family or group of people. Highly recommend !
