Pictures do not do this place justice. Dave and Gundula went above and beyond what we would of expected The house was clean and lots of room for our family of 4. The ocean view was amazing, the garden and wildlife added to the whole experience. Wish we could of stayed longer.

Most romantic place to stay in Bocas!
The property is truly amazing, beautifully manicured and cared for. No one around, just the sound of parrots and crashing waves. The beach is pristine, soft sand and warm ocean breezes. Rarely did we see another person, I loved the privacy and tranquility of the grounds. The two dogs are well behaved and fun to play with. There is a fresh water lagoon down the beach that is simply spectacular. We could have spent our entire week there. We were most pleased with Gundala, our host. Her timing is impeccable, seemed to know exactly when to offer an activity, a specialty drink, or leave us to a bit of privacy. She greeted us at the airport, instantly she felt like a long lost sister. She has in-depth knowledge of the area and its history. We shared similar views and found her extremely likable. She has great connections throughout Bocas which definitely came in handy when planning activities. We came for a week of relaxation and this is exactly what we received. We saw many monkeys, sloths, birds, and dart frogs...all on the property!

Espectacular
Tanto el lugar como la atención de la propietaria fueron espectaculares. La casa se encuentra en medio de un entorno selvático rodeada de un jardín muy bien cuidado. Pudimos ver monos aulladores, capuchinos y osos perezosos además de una gran variedad de pájaros. Gundula nos enseño las belleza de los alrededores incluidas la playa de las estrellas y boca del drago. La casa esta dotada de una cocina maravillosa con todo tipo de utensilios. Gundula es muy comprometida con el medio ambiente. Si algun día volveremos a Bocas no dudaremos en visitar de nuevo su casa.

Maravilloso lugar
El sitio es espectacular, los jardines de la casa y la playa privada son ideales para unas vacaciones de lujo, justo en frente la isla se los pájaros que es preciosa! Cerca hay otra playa mas grande a la que se va caminando que es espectacular!!!, muchos pagarían un tour por verla. El trato de gundula es inmejorable siempre pendiente de si necesitábamos cualquier cosa y de explicarnos donde estaban las playas y de los paseos que podíamos dar, ella vive encima de la casa a alquilar, totalmente independiente.
En la casa dispones de kayacs que por supuesto usamos, boogie y gafas y tubo para hacer snorkel.
Totalmente recomendable.

Amazing
This house and property is amazing. The owner's Gundaula and Dave are very accommodating and welcoming. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. We went during the raining season, but didn't mind. We had miles of beaches to ourselves and enjoyed long walks in the jungle.
Gundala is wonderful about showing you around the property and explaining all about the tress and plants she has on her property. She also took us hiking through the jungle and we were lucky enough to see a family of howler monkeys on the first day.
It was a little hard at first getting use to being "off the grid." No cell phones, no TV. However, we soon began to relax and enjoyed our stress free time. This is a great place to go for a relaxing and adventurous vacation. We can't wait to go back!!!!

Eco-tourism that offers something to everyone
I stayed at the Hofers' solar-powered home with my wife and our two daughters, 21 and 25, and our friend from England. Gundula and David bring their own expertise to their business. Gundula is a naturalist who can tell you a great deal about the plants she has cultivated on their 20 acre property and the wild flora and fauna. David seems to know everyone in and everything about Bocastown, and Boca del Drago. I came to Casa Manana prepared for serious hiking and was up almost everyday before dawn to start a trek that often did not end until 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. The terrain is very easy. I identified two species of hummingbirds and saw many more that I was unable to positively identify. I also saw three species of parrots, oropendolas, honey creepers, vireos, several species of predatory birds and a wide variety of warblers. I found a dead Fer-de-Lance (genus Bothrops) and black snake on the track leading from Casa Manana to one of the beaches. I used a long pole to sweep the brush when I was bush-whacking and did not see any living snakes. There were various amphibians and reptiles, most notably poison-dart frogs, for which Gundula assiduously searched and found for our edification. What is wonderful about Casa Manana is that you can enjoy it fully in a variety of ways. Our youngest daughter had a lot of reading and napping to do and spent many pleasant hours swinging from a hammock on the porch of the house facing the ocean. She also took some walks but did not venture very far from the "civilized" portions of the property. Our other daughter was a bit more active and should have taken more precautions but still had a wonderful time even if she got a few bites. There was a lot to see from the open porch, with or without binoculars. We could have stayed for a month without getting bored. We will be back.

Paradise off the beaten path
We stayed 5 nights at Casa Manana. It is located on the north shore of Isla Colon in Boca del Drago, 45 minutes away from Bocas Town by car (quite a ride!). The owner arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport and stop for groceries for the week on the way. Casa Manana is a solar house on 20 acres, situated on a hill up from the beach, beautifully landscaped with flowering ginger and other tropical flowers, mangos, papayas, breadfruit, etc. The owner has planted all of this and she is willing to share her knowledge with anyone who asks, as well as her knowledge about the wildlife in the jungle that surrounds the property. The beach is sandy and the surf was fun - the water was 81 degrees. Magnificent location, if you are looking for a laid-back vacation off the beaten path where nature abounds. A wonderland for any age.
As for the house, the owners (American ex-pats) live upstairs, and rent out the lower level of the house, and they are available as much or as little as you want them to be. The shutters on the doors and windows fold back, without screens, opening up the house to the great outdoors (you do have to close them at night because the lights will attract bugs).I went to Panama with 100% DEET expecting the worse and I was surprised that I did not receive a single bite (even in the jungle) without it - maybe it's just me. There is no AC (but there are ceiling fans), but we didn't need it as there was always a breeze. The beds were comfortable, the showers were clean and modern, the kitchen was well-equipped. However, we spent little time inside as the outside beckoned.
The surrounding jungle was magnificent and we took daily hikes in search of wildlife. The howler monkeys visited daily and two 3-toed sloths made their home in a tree near the house where we watched them through binoculars. We had frequent visits from hummingbirds, bananaquits, oropendula, and many other birds.
We had a wonderful time and we all agreed that this was the favorite part of our 16-day Panamanian vacation. We will be back!

Paradise!
We stayed at Casa Manana for 5 days during Christmas and we found paradise! A spacious clean house with a beautiful veranda, a lovely garden with organic fresh lime, peppers, ruccola. bananas, waterapples and lots more, a private picture perfect beach, a fresh water lagoon - the list of paradise-contributing-elements is very long! Gundula and Dave took care of us in a wonderful way, pointing out sloths and fruits in the garden.
We were two families travelling together with 4 children (aged two and five). The kids loved it and they miss the very friendly dogs a lot. Hopefully we can return to this paradise one day!

Such a beautiful place!
My husband, myself and our two young daughters spent three nights at Casa Mañana and it was an unforgettable experience. I was worried that our daughters would be bored with no Internet or tv. Quite the opposite. They had the time of their lives running around the property, playing with the dogs, checking out the gardens and playing board games. The home is beautiful and clean. We have rented vacation homes all over the world and this place is top-notch. Dave was an excellent host who entertained us with great conversations and did everything possible to make us comfortable and ensure we had everything we needed. Wonderful stay!

Wonderful time at Casa Mañana!
This is a great place to stay! The home and property grounds are beautiful and clean. We arrived in Bocas del Toro a few days earlier than planned and David helped us out tremendously. We are very grateful. He showed us around the property, their private beach, fresh water lagoon and enjoyed a variety of delicious fruit. As an added bonus, they have three wonderful dogs. Our kids talk about them all the time.
