A terrible experience, made my trip to waste
Unprofessional service. We paid in advanced for a week of tours and guidance. Around $1500 to be exact which included meals made by his wife who also helped around. First off food was served in a portable stove that she made the chicken in which made the rest of the food extremely oily. Made me be put off to the meals after that. I’m a quiet guy who was born in Costa Rica but raised in the US. So I came out to learn and experience my country more than what I knew. Everything was normal until the first tour came to an unsatisfactory ending. Unaware of where he was going, he hired a tour guide to walk through the mountains through piles of mud and cow feces and tried to get me to pay for It at an extra cost. When I told him I didn’t like the tour very much he decided It was a good idea to literally yell at me and tell me about how I’m difficult and how I’m a problem because I don’t understand how “beautiful nature is” Which led to a string of smart comments and impatient behavior! One day while going through another hike we were in a small body of water that had a rock to jump off of. While enjoying myself swimming he decided to take the group that I was with and keep going. I literally saw my group far away from me walking along. When I realized and caught up to him I obviously got visibly and verbally upset with his actions to which he called me “difficult” and “a troublemaker”. He said he tried to call my name but I didn’t answer so he went along and knew I’d catch up. The day before he took me to the market and forgot to put gas in his car so his car broke down and he made me walk back with him through woods unprepared for like 45 minutes which concluded my day. Of course no money back and not even a sorry! No tour or dinner that day. When I asked to go to restaurants later he insisted on trying to get me to eat his wife’s food all the time. (because it was paid in advance), The night before I left we had arguments 2 times in the last few hours over miscommunications. The final day he confessed that he “couldn’t stand me”. There’s more I could write but it’s already long enough. His place is only good (and that’s being generous) if you know the area and can go places yourself. If you need help this is NOT the place for you. He is very rude and impatient. Will never go again. This person pretend to be kind in the name of GOD, my dad who called him to clarify certain things with his bad behavior and what he got back was a series of bad words and screaming like a madman, he never returned any money even for his mistakes. A very disguised person.

A pleasant adventure
We stayed at Eladios four days. The house was clean and neat. Their pool was clean and refreshing. It is a great place to use as a central location for seeing all that Guanacaste has to offer or to spend a quiet day at the pool. We went with Eladio to Witch Rock for some surfing! A great surf beach with beautiful views! He even recommended some other sights in the area. We wish we could have visited them all. He has a great love for his family and Costa Rica! They all were great hosts. Thank you for a wonderful time. We recommend this place and plan on visiting there again. Pura Vida Joe & Gina

Great Value and Location for Exploring Guanacaste
We had a great stay at Eladio’s. He had so much energy and good recommendations for the local parks. Had a few minor issues with the place that were always fixed by the time we got back. The pool was super nice too.

Bait and switch
On November 27, 2018, I booked 'Eladio's Place- Palma Real Cottage'. My choice was based on the TripAdvisor rating and the accompanying photos. That same day I received a TripAdvisor confirmation number (BR26799342) and a thank you note from Eladio. On December 16, 2018 I was notified of my final payment and another thank you note from Eladio for rental of the Palma Real Cottage. On January 11, 2019 I contacted Eladio for rental car information and recommendations. Only after I contacted Eladio did he bother to inform me that the Palma Real Cottage was unavailable and my stay had been moved to the Sofia Cottage (see TripAdvisor listing for photos). The Sofia Cottage IS NOT of the same quality as the Cottage that I booked. Eladio never made an effort to return or reduce my payment. He did offer one day trip for free and, only after negotiations, did he offer one day trip for two persons. We would accompany a previously scheduled trip. The Cottage is located in a good place to explore that part of Costa Rica but he failed to mention that there are NO amenities nearby. Liberia, 15km, provides the nearest store, restaurants, etc. the Cottage is approximately 50m off of the PanAm highway so you get to listen to vehicle traffic all night. There is a pile of trash in the yard and a local dog that barks incessantly as you arrive and depart the cottage. I've used and rely on TripAdvisor in the past and will continue to do so for future trips. I will not recommend Eladio's Place for anyone Peter Douglas O'Bagy TripAdvisor #BR26799342

Mr. Peter, I made my big mistake by booking that double house. When I saw it, I did put in touch with you. I offered you sofia cottage. Because I thought you had no alternative to stay. If I know you never stay in Sofia's cabin. We could fix that. to return the money. But you came to see the house and decided to take the keys to the house and you went to visit other people and you came to stay the last night. The times I called you, you treated me very badly. Your character is terrible! It is impossible to fix something with your temper.

Wonderful place to stay
Eladio's bungalow was a wonderful place to stay. Very clean and had everything we needed. Eladio was very helpful with giving us direction to the area's attractions - drawing maps and routes. The place was very central for driving to many interesting places in the area. Both Eladio and his wife and children and little dog are a very sweet family and have made a beautiful shangri-la of their property. The pool was lovey and well maintained. We loved the morning visits of the flock of wild parrots and the hooting of the howler monkeys in the forest. We will definitely come back.

Wonderful family stay
Eladio was the perfect host. We are very adventurous and he helped us plan our daily excursions. We snorkeled, fished, zip-lined, tubed and went horseback riding. We even saw the rainforest and many other things. Excellent vacation for me and my family. Centrally located to almost everything.

First time in Costa Rica
We enjoyed staying at Eladios, I really liked all the wild birds, iguana,a big cane toad , fire flies and geckos that were around. The house was comfy and we had the pool to ourselves. We went on a adventurous day trip with Eladio and saw a sloth, monkeys , toucans and many birds. We also went on a short hike to enjoy natural hot springs.At the end we stopped at a soda for a tasty inexpensive meal. I would recommend Eladios place if you are visiting Liberia.

Nice Cottage in Nearly Ideal Location for Guanacaste National Parks
Eladio's place is located in possibly the perfect spot for visiting Guanacaste National Parks. In 4 days we visited Palo Verde (45 mins away), Rincon de la Vieja (30 mins), Lomas Barbudal (DON'T miss this! 30 mins) and Santa Rosa (25 mins). It's right on the Interamerican Highway, but it's surprisingly quiet and the accommodations are just right if simple. It's also only 15 minutes from Liberia so it's easy to pop in for dinner or shopping. We stayed in the Palma Real cottage which is two bedrooms with a small sitting area and a full kitchen. Clean and comfortable and even has hot water if you want it. The property is shady and has a nice big clean pool. Eladio himself is a very special guy. He works extremely hard for his guests and is committed to great experiences. He has a hilarious, outgoing personality and is fun to spend time with. Being very familiar with Costa Rican wildlife ourselves, our main goal was to go with someone who knew special spots and could get us there. In other words we didn't need a "biologist guide" as much as an "insider" who knows all the best places. Eladio did not disappoint - he took us to some truly out of the way places around Palo Verde, Lomas Barbudal and Santa Rosa. As a result we saw a prehensile tailed anteater, coatis, jabiru storks, roseate spoonbills and spectacled owls, along with crocodiles and other assorted reptiles. Eladio's offers a unique niche - knowledge of the area plus a nearly ideal location and sturdy transportation. If you are a good birder or wildlife watcher already he'll get you to where you need to go. And if you are just experiencing the wildlife of Costa Rica for the first time it will be fun too. And although we aren't surfers, he apparently offers a killer surf experience overland to Witch's Rock. Surfing is his primary passion. We were impressed with how hard he has worked - and continues to work - to give his guests a special experience. Recommended very highly.
