A very large, exceedingly well equipped holiday accommodation, ideal for a large family, or group of adults. All the rooms were spacious and furnished to a high standard. the beds were very comfortable, which when accompanied with near noiseless surroundings, made for a great nights sleep.
On arrival, this house was cold and had obviously not been lived in, for some time. We got through the complimentary logs supplied, on our first night.
With six adults in our party, we had to balance the use of hot water between showers and kitchen use. There is a booster switch for hot water, but it still took some time before sufficient hot water was available.
My wife and I took the bus into Campbeltown the next day and bought a cheap fan heater from the local Nickel and Dime Store. The girls restocked the wood pile for the remainder of our stay, (a 'No mean' achievement on Hogmanay), but we still needed the heater to take the chill off.
Meanwhile the lads went for a walk along the seashore to take photos and do a spot of stone piling, as you do in Scotland on the last day of the year.
The house looks onto the 18th green of the Macrihanish Championship course and is not more than 150yards from the Ugadale Hotel with its associated Pub.
Great food to be had in the Hotel, Pub and the Golf Clubhouse.
There are two other excellent golf courses in this area, namely The Dunes near the airport and Dunaverty which is South of Campbeltown on the leeward side of the Kintyre peninsula
Views of the Kintyre coastline are spectacular, especially during westerly gale conditions. Plenty of opportunity to have brisk walks and enjoy the wildlife on and around the seashore.
There is an excellent games room, with small snooker table, darts, table soccer, DVD player and board games, to keep kids and adults amused. However, us oldies just got stuck to Candy Crush on the tablets in front of a roaring fire.
For the owners to note, it would be worth providing an inventory of items within the house especially the kitchen. We only found the food mixer late on the last night hidden in a cupboard. Too late for us, who had to purchase a whisk in the trusty N&D store in Campbeltown.
After a couple of days the general temperature of the house was up to speed.
Hopefully the owner will implement a warm up plan, for future customers.
To sum up, this was a super place to stay during the festive season. We saw 'The Bells' in at the Ugadale Hotel where we enjoyed a great evening there, eventually creeping into bed around 3 o'clock in the New Year.
This a beautiful part of Scotland. It may take time to get to, unless you fly from Glasgow, but believe me it's worth the effort. If you are driving home via Crianlarich and you're a whisky lover, pop into Loch Fyne Whiskies in Inveraray. Hand the keys to " 'er indoors" and Sample...nay Buy, one of the Myriads of Malt Whiskies on show. Your journey home will take you through some of the most beautiful scenery to be seen in Scotland. I've said enough. Get yourself down to the Kintyre Peninsula, you'll not be disappointed!.
