This is a charming, old-fashioned cottage with a very warm heart. The three bedrooms could comfortably accommodate a family of 5. We were welcomed by Lindi, who is caretaker and lives in a separate flatlet at the back of the property - she is an absolute delight. Glencairn is a pleasant hamlet on the coastal road between Muizenburg and Simonstown - well positioned for people wanting to explore the peninsular, but who do not want the crush of central Cape Town. We thoroughly recommend this delightful cottage as a place to unwind.

So we booked this cottage through TripAdvisor after we learned our friend who lives nearby knew the owner. We arrived and were immediately struck by the quaintness and colonial look of the property. It’s really big inside with 3 bedrooms, a large living/dining area and large kitchen. Not a lot of outside space, but enough to sit out the front and enjoy the sun and views. Not wheelchair friendly due to the steps up, but if you’re in a wheelchair you wouldn’t book this cottage; but if you’re not, it’s perfect for a stay here. Looking out the front aspect, you have the views of the hills opposite and behind, and the lovely view of the ocean in front. There’s a lovely pub at the bottom of the road (The Glen Hotel) which is very friendly with superb food! You can take a stroll into Simon’s Town for breakfast on the harbour, or a short car ride into Kalk Bay which has a great array of shops, cafes and ‘Pop-Up’ shops in the market place (Check out Dusk Til Dawn’s pop-up shop near the back!) We had a really relaxing and enjoyable holiday based in this cottage, and now I understand the kitchen has been renovated, it should be even better! I would highly recommend staying at this cottage. The owner sorted out a couple of minor little issues immediately, and the housekeeper (who lives in a small house at the back) is absolutely wonderful and not intrusive at all. All in all we had a great time, and will definitely stay here again when we go back.

This is our second stay at Glen Cottage and we look forward to returning again soon. Glen Cottage is an idyllic find. It is brilliantly located - close to the beach, overlooking Glen cairn Vlei (a nature reserve area) and within walking distance to local amenities and restaurants. It is a wonderful cottage with both mountain and sea views. The cottage is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, well-furnished and absolutely perfect for a family holiday. It is well proportioned with a very spacious living area and large kitchen so that everyone can spread out. The cottage is well equipped with everything that you may need. The attention to detail is evident - with excellent quality bedding and towels – all helping ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay – and a good nights sleep! Glen cottage is well located for exploring the Cape. During our stay we enjoyed running along the beach front (into Simons Town) for breakfast or a quick invigorating climb to the top of Elsie’s Peak for stunning views over the surrounding area. Our children particularly enjoyed the local attractions including: swimming with the penguins at the stunning Boulders Bay, playing in the tidal pool, digging for hours at the Gem Stone Scratch Patch, running and nature spotting on the beach and exploring the wildlife on the Vlei – all of which are within walking distance of the cottage. The cottage is also well located for easy access to the better known tourist attractions of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsular including: the many wineries in the area; Cape Town Waterfront; Table Mountain; Cape Point and Robben Island. Lindi is incredibly welcoming. She went out of her way to be helpful and ensure that we had everything that we needed. This is the second time we have stayed at this property and it was another fantastic stay. We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the Cape. It is a hidden gem and well worth visiting.

We had a lovely stay in this charming simple cottage. The owners and managers were very helpful providing an accurate description, easy payment options (from the UK) and directions. The house-keeper was also very friendly and helpful (bringing in our laundry for instance). The cottage itself has a spacious lounge and kitchen (albeit with dated appliances, but adequate for our needs) and good sized-bedrooms. The location is a few minutes walk from the lovely quiet beach. Overall we felt it was great value for money.
