There is a gas BBQ with a granite counter, a gas fire pit for smores, and huge dining table with seating for 10, plus additional seating in a love seat, comfy chairs, lounge chairs, and hammock. On the side of the yard are various fruit trees, including lemon, guava, clementine and kumquat. The unobstructed view stretches past the Cuyamaca Mountains to the desert.
INDOOR LIVING SPACES
This property is unique in that it offers many living spaces, including two living/family rooms, a game room, a bedroom/living room, and seating at the kitchen island. All living spaces are tastefully decorated with solid wood, hand crafted 'arts and crafts' style pieces. All rooms (including bedrooms) have fabulous lighting, with dimmers so that you can adjust the light for perfect atmosphere. The abundance of living spaces is a wonderful feature for extended family vacations, as the entire family will be able to spend time together, yet also break into smaller groups in different areas.There are two separate living rooms, each with its own stone fireplace. One living room (the “Great Room”) has wood flooring, a high vaulted ceiling, a great leather U-shaped sectional, Noguchi glass coffee table, huge flat screen TV, solid cherry dining table with seating for 12 and caucasian rug. The other living room is smaller, with new hardwood flooring. The game room has a tournament sized (9') pool table and foosball table. The fifth bedroom is set up with a flat screen TV and a day bed that converts to a king bed, such that this room can be used as a bedroom and/or a living space. The large kitchen is equipped for a chef and is perfect for entertaining. It has custom cabinetry, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Your chef will appreciate the Cuisinart food processor, Kitchen Aid mixer, real knives, pot filler, second bar area with sink, etc. To accommodate our family's habit of spending time in the kitchen, we have comfortable leather chairs positioned on the bar side of the huge kitchen island.
Bedrooms
This is a five bedroom home, with beds for 15 people, plus 2 air matressess.
We want our guests to sleep well, and do our best provide the ideal sleep environment. Three of the bedrooms are upstairs; two are downstairs. The upstairs bedrooms have high vaulted ceilings and huge windows on two or three walls. There is tremendous natural lighting and fabulous cross breezes. The master bedroom is 27' long, with a view over the pool, past the mountains and to the desert. It features a king sized bed with custom headboard, a full sized West Elm futon, flatscreen TV, and two seating areas, one with a Corbusier pony lounge chair, the other with Wassily black leather chairs and a gorgeous thick glass coffee table. The master bedroom has its own private bath, with jacuzzi tub, granite counters and two sinks, and separate toilet area. The walk-in closet is big enough for a bed, and has two air mattresses. One of the upstairs bedrooms is furnished as a children's room, with a twin over full bunk bed and West Elm full futon. There is no TV in the children's room. The children's bedroom overlooks the water feature in the front yard. The other upstairs bedroom has a queen bed, a flatscreen TV, and an unobstructed easterly view over the pool. Downstairs, there are two bedrooms. The front bedroom has built-in cabinets, and a cozy window seat with cushions and pillows. Behind the queen bed, there is a custom designed, hand made head board, nearly 8' high. This front bedroom has a view of the water feature in the front of the house. The second downstairs bedroom has french doors that open onto the pool area. It has a daybed that converts to a king and a flatscreen that is connected to wifi.
In total, there are beds for 15, plus 2 air mattresses.
Amenities
The house has a variety of amenities, incl. solar heated pool, jacuzzi, outdoor gas BBQ, gas fire pit, two water features, small grassy area, outdoor seating for 18, hammock chair, pool table, foosball table, many flatscreen TVs, free wifi, books (children's books, cookbooks, novels, biographies, etc.), board games, children's toys, and beach toys (surf board, boogie boards, sand toys, etc.) We hope to have everything that you may want in a vacation home.
Safety / Supervision of Children
I have had many guests with small children stay at this property. Having said this, you should ONLY rent this property if you are prepared to supervise your children closely at all times. There is no fence between the house and the pool. Behind the yard and the pool is a steep hill. La Jolla has all sorts of wild animals, including rattle snakes, bees, black widow spiders, racoons, coyotes, etc. There is a fire pit and BBQ, and a dangerous situation could arise if children were to play with these. Similarly, inside the home are a variety of items, including a glass coffee table, electrical cords that are not protected for small children, and even the kitchen garbage. Great location!! Quiet neighborhood at the top of Mount Soledad, La Jolla. It is not in downtown La Jolla, which offers a few huge advantages, and a few disadvantages:
1. Our property is located at the top of Mount Soledad, so it is much more convenient than most areas of La Jolla. A couple mins drive and you are on I-5, which takes you anywhere. Beaches, shops, restaurants are within 2-3 miles. 10 mins in your car will get you to the San Diego zoo, Sea World, Balboa Park with tons of museums, downtown San Diego, the airport, Old Towne, Little Italy, the Convention Center, etc. This is a huge advantage over most areas of La Jolla, particularly the downtown and surrounding areas.
