Long time Tripadvisor lurker, first time review. Have travelled widely and am moved to write this review after our experience at Casa do Farol. We booked for 3 nights but left after the first night. Firstly, this house is in a beautiful location in the middle of a national park so there are no supermarkets, shops or garages around. The owner told us before hand to bring everything with us we needed or wanted, except for dishwasher tablets, she would leave those. So, when we arrived we find there is no dishwasher tablets and zero cleaning products, not even washing up liquid. When I asked her she shrugged and said 'I don't have'. The consequence of this is that obviously no one staying there is cleaning the cooking utensils or plates cups etc. They were caked with old food and grease, obviously just rinsed under the tap and put away, it was disgusting. There was nothing that was clean enough to use. When I showed them to her I asked her if she would use them she said no, but it wasn't her fault (???). The toaster is a one sided rusted contraption in desperate need of replacement - you can get one for around 20 Euro. The kettle when we plugged it in caused an electric surge and wouldn't work, despite a sign being up saying all electrical were checked before arrival. The bedrooms are in the basement and have not been ventilated for some time, the smell of mould was bad enough that I slept on the couch upstairs. The windows are blocked by large flower pots so no light comes in. The owner did not ask to see our Covid vaccine certs which every hotel asks for, so I'm assuming she asks no other guests. We received no invoice for our 200 euro a night payment. I left my hat behind and sent her numerous messages after we left through various means, all of which were ignored. It's a shame, this could be a fabulous stay, I can't understand a host who doesn't have enough pride in their property to take care of it or be so inconsiderate of the needs of guests to not provide basic, clean cooking and eating equipment. Never again.

Reservamos esta preciosa casa a traves de centraldereservas.com en febrero de este año para pasar una semana en agosto.La dueña nos envio un correo a traves de centraldereservas pidiendo un deposito de 125€ y como el aviso lo vimos dos dias mas tarde de la fecha tope para pagarlo,decidimos llamarla por telefono para asegurarnos de que aun estabamos a tiempo. Nos confirmo que si e hicimos la transeferencia dos dias despues. Por whatsapp me confirmo la recepcion del dinero. A finales de julio, al entrar en mi perfil de reservas para comprobar otra reserva que había hecho me di cuenta de que la reserva de la casa se había cancelado.Hable con central de reservas para preguntar pero ellos no la habian cancelado.Pregunté a la dueña y me dijo que la habia cancelado por falta de pago. En ningun momento contacto conmigo ni con centraldereservas para pedir mas dinero ni para avisar de la cancelación, simplemente canceló sin avisar. La explicacion que daba es que booking (centraldereservas utilizo booking para la reserva) habia cancelado porque se pagó el deposito fuera de plazo. Por supuesto a finales de julio la casa ya no estaba disponible, nos dejaba en la calle y no ofrecia alternativa. suerte que mire en mi perfil a tiempo, y suerte que conseguimos reservar otro sitio pero creo que esta persona no es muy de fiar. Primero negó que hubiera hablado conmigo por telefono y segundo no fue capaz de reenviarme los mensajes o correos que decia haberme enviado informando de la cancelacion. Una pena porque por telefono sonaba bastante simpatica y estabamos muy ilusionados con pasar nuestras vacaciones alli.

Lo descubrí el año pasado con unos amigos buceando, lugar espectacular, tranquilo y con unos paisajes que nunca olvidarás... Buscamos alojamiento allí y fuimos a la Casa do farol de Arrábida, deseando repetir...
