We have just returned after 6 nights at Stanley Ghyll and have to say, in the ten years we have been visiting this valley, this was our favourite stay. Stanley Ghyll being detached really suited us and we had our very own walled garden. Everything was to a really high standard. We normally struggle with beds when we go away but again the quality was high. We met Greg who was very polite and really helpful. I would recommend any of the cottages as they are all lovely and we will definitely be returning soon.

I booked Wastwater Cottage and The Farmhouse to host a Wellness Weekend Health Retreat. Everything was perfect and I booked the very next day to host another event for longer this time in September 2019. I have no hesitation in recommending Select Cottages.

A stunningly beautiful house full of period features, very well appointed and fitted out. The house was very clean with plenty of wood for the wood burning stove. With the fire lit the sitting room was cosy and warm. We walked from Boot every day without having to use the car both high and low. Fantastic holiday and we’ll be back.

We spent 2 nights at this lovely farmhouse, it was full of character and extremely clean. The kitchen was well equipped, and the tea coffee and milk was much appreciated when we arrived. I would definitely recommend this place. We were a stones throw from the Boot Inn, and a short walk from the railway station, which we visited during our stay.

We booked Bridge End Farmhouse for a weekend in February, so we were expecting the weather. And the Lake District didn't disappoint us on that front! But, not only were we well dressed for the weather, we had this beautiful, very characterful and stunningly quaint cottage to come back to. It is old, with the dresser in the living room dating from 1703! This does, of course, mean that the floorboards creak as they are walked on. As soon as the first person is up in the morning, everyone is awake, (although we did think that this was all part of the charm.) The cottage is in the most fantastic location, with a great pub next door and village shop about a mile or so away. There are 4 twin/double bedrooms, making it adequate for up to 8 people, although there were only 4 of us. The family bathroom has a lovely free standing bath and should have a large shower. Sadly the shower was out of action for our stay. There is another shower in the drying room, which is fine, but a disappointment that in a 5 star cottage we needed to traipse down the stairs to shower. (There is also a shower in the en-suite bathroom off one of the bedrooms.) But, the lack of one shower wasn't going to upset us when we had a roaring woodburner to sit in front of! Except that it didn't exactly roar, so much as whimper and die. Only 2 firelighters had been left for us and these quickly went, as we burned all the available kindling trying to get the fire to blaze. There was no hope of getting the logs to go, as these were either damp or way too big to actually get into the stove. We were able to get some firelighters (and dishwasher tablets, which were also missing), from the local shop the following morning. And the pub kindly lent us an axe so that we could get some reasonable sized logs. But, despite our new firelighters and smaller logs, we still failed to get much life from the woodburner until late on our last night. One of our party investigated and discovered a baffle had blocked the flue. Shifting the baffle back to its rightful place meant that we did get a good fire going at last. Sadly a little too late to rescue this review. We would go back, but we'd be better prepared next time and we would probably be much more willing to call for help much more quickly to resolve such problems.

Beautiful old fashioned cottage, situated in a lovely quiet spot . Excellent for peace and quiet and good walks, Owners even supplied milk,tea,coffee and sugar,(Nice touch) Would definitely stay here again. No locals shops, so will need to bring food with you, but there is an excellent pub a few steps away from the cottage were we had good food and beer.

Pasamos nuestros días de vacaciones en la Farmhouse, que acomodó perfectamente tanto a nuestros niños como a nuestros mayores. En un lugar paradisiaco, con un molino a pocos pasos, un tren a corta distancia, y unos cuantos pubs con buen ambiente y buena comida a menos de 5 minutos andando , no puede pedirse más. El entorno es impresionante, el páramo, los Lagos, los pueblos, pero una casa tan confortable y tan cuidada era algo que quizás nos sorprendió. Hasta allí llego un hombre a afinar el piano de uno de los Cottages, sin duda una indicación del mimo que se pone en los detalles. Todo es perfecto en la casa, desde la temperatura cuando llegas a las confortables camas, desde la leche que te espera en el frigorífico para que puedas desayunar tranquilamente el día siguiente hasta los impolutos cuartos de aseo. Lo único que nos costó es marcharnos de allí, eso sí con la intención de repetir , de volver e intentar ver ese entorno en todas las estaciones y por supuesto de volver a disfrutar de la hospitalidad de los que tan bien nos cuidaron y aconsejaron. We stayed in Scafell Cottage over new year - extended family of 9 including 2 teenagers, 5 year old, and a baby. The cottage was a superb location for our break - plenty big enough with a large lounge to sit all of us. I loved the layout of the cottage - 2 rooms with single beds upstairs, a further master bedroom with ensuite up another set of stairs and a large double bedroom with ensuite off the lounge. I slept in probably the less private of the rooms as it has a balcony over the kitchen, however it has a curtain across for privacy, the bedroom was quaint so I didn't see this as an issue. There is a laundry room across from the cottage with extra fridge in too, which was useful. I would agree with other reviews that the bathrooms were a bit dated/tired and probably could so with updating sometime in the near future but everywhere was so clean and well equipped, so this is only a minor point. The garden as the back is lovely but due to the weather we didn't make use of it - it would be perfect in the summer to sit out and enjoy the stunning views. The location is fantastic - an ideal stay to visit all corners of the Lakes. There are plenty of walks starting in Boot and despite the weather we did some smaller walks. There are 2 pubs on the doorstep - The Boot Inn being our favourite, and there is also a 3rd pub down the road within walking distance. Very good communications from the owner Greg Poole and I can highly recommend staying in this cottage. We certainly will be booking again.

We stayed with Select Cottages in Brittany back in spring and were so pleased with the cottage and Greg’s help while booking that we decided to stay at one of The Lakes cottages in late summer. We were three couples, one with two small children and we found there was plenty of space for all of us and plenty to do. It was great to have the outdoor area for the children in the morning and evening so they could run around while meals were prepared. With a few peaks still to walk in the area I can see this becoming a regular jaunt.
