Wow! Where do we start! Let's start with the house.... a beautifully tranquil place set amongst the tree canopy of the jungle. To wake up every morning and hear the monkeys (and see them) having their breakfast, the various beautiful birds (including humming birds which we've never seen before) was a real treat. We were even visited by Raccoons a couple of nights with was very amusing. Yes you do see big spiders (we saw some but they didn't come in the house) and the odd scorpions but as with all insects just keep your eyes open and just push them out with a broom - remember they won't hurt you if you don't threaten them. We even woke up one morning to find two green crickets in our bedroom... and once a large stick insect. We soon got used to this and found it quite endearing. Because the windows and large screen doors on the house are mesh only you can lie in bed not only watching the surroundings, but hearing it as well which makes you feel part of the whole special world outside and enhances the whole experience. Even the howler monkeys waking us early sometimes didn't matter - remember you are in the jungle!
The beds were super comfortable, the facilities at the house are great. It comes with a TV, DVD and wifi with great cooking facilities both inside and out with the choice of two BBQs and eating areas. The pool is inviting at any time of the day (or night) and is just the right temperature that you can get in at any time and it doesn't ever feel cold. Yes in the morning there can be leaves in it but you are in the jungle and it can also be quite windy (which is often a blessing as it's so hot) but It's cleaned daily in the morning. There is also a cleaner who will come every day and clean the house if you want her to but we didn't feel the need so we let them know how often we would like her to come. We also had our laundry taken in the morning and returned in the evening of the same day when required.
You do need a 4x4 to access the house but be careful because the only company we could find who would guarantee a 4x4 booking was Alamo, neither Budget or Dollar would guarantee one. Alamo was also a very good price. You can access the beaches by foot but if you ever want to drive you wouldn't get down to them without a 4x4. The beaches are stunning and well worth a visit, as is Mathilda's bar at the end of the first beach you come too. This one soon became our favourite.
Our transfers to and from the airport were great and Mariluz was on hand at any time if we needed to ask a question (although we tried not to bother her too much). For example, she helped us to book a ferry to Ometepe Island (well worth a visit) as the booking system can be tricky.
The house is only a 20 minute drive from San Juan Del Sur (albeit along a very dusty, quite bumpy road - which is fine if you have your 4x4) which is a bustling, crazy place (especially on a Sunday when all the locals go down there in huge school buses), but it never feels crowded, just buzzing. The food is really cheap out there, we highly recommend Barrio Cafe (in SJDS) for great service and value for money with excellent coffee (including lattes!) and a good choice of food. There are also various restaurants along the beach if you want seafood. Nica Sail and Surf has great boat trips which are not only great fun, but really relaxing too. Zip lining through the tree canopy with Da Flying Frog Company is also thoroughly recommended - great value for money and they really look after you if you're a bit nervous. We saw lots of baby monkeys on that trip, right under our feet! You do need a head for heights although you can tandem with one of the guides if you tell them. This is only 15 minutes from the house on the dirt road.
We would thoroughly recommend not only the house but Nicaragua in general and hopefully one day will go back as Nicaragua is full of lovely, friendly people who are so proud of their country and want you to be as proud as they are. It's, in turn, a relaxing but crazy, warm and fabulous place!

Wow what a place......
Wow, what can I say…
The house is in a fantastic quiet location with amazing ocean views and all you can hear is the noises of the jungle wildlife.
There is nothing quite like sitting in the pool with a nice cold drink watching the incredible sunset before cooking a lovely barbeque with jungle noises in the background.
Mariluz was the perfect host, picking us up from the house the morning after arriving, and taking us to the town to pick up our car and show us around. We can recommend Alamo in SJDS for a great service and great price when hiring the essential 4x4 you will need to get around. I can also confirm that SJDS is only 20 minutes away from the house.
The local people could not be more welcoming, often saying “welcome to our country” when we met them, and the town of SJDS is brilliant with great bars and restaurants.
The two local beaches (the two that you can see from the house) are beautiful sandy beaches which are very quiet, and each has a lovely “shack” serving cold drinks and freshly cooked food / snacks. And literally just round the rocks to the south (an easy 10 minute walk) is the Playa Maderas surfing beach which has a few bars and restaurants.
A couple of activities we can recommend: Zip Lining at “Da Flying Frog Canopy Tours” which is only 15 minutes from Casa Francesca, and “Nica Sail and Surf” for a great boat trip which leaves from SJDS harbour. We also recommend visiting Ometepe volcanic island.
Lastly, we would like to thank Micky and Mariluz for helping us experience such a memorable holiday in a country we perhaps would not have thought of visiting.

A tranquil jungle retreat
We stayed for nearly a week in December 2017. Loved the open air concept, the private pool and great views. It wasn't uncommon to spot howler monkeys in the surrounding treetops. And we never tired of watching the sunset over the Pacific.
There is a great beach just down the road; most days we'd have the beach to ourselves for hours at a time... and to top it off there's a little family run snack bar (Mathilda's) on the beach where you can buy cheap beer and local fare.
Michael, Mariluz & the onsite Balcones staff were very responsive to our questions and requests. Our pickup and transfers went very smoothly. Mariluz even emailed us one day to let us know about a surf competition taking place at a nearby beach (a local experience we wouldn't have otherwise known about and thoroughly enjoyed).
Casa Francesca was a relaxing, private jungle retreat and one we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

La casa es perfecta! Desde la espectacular vista hasta la comodidad, simplemente inmejorable! Estar en casa Francesca hizo de nuestras vacaciones una experiencia increíble!
