You will not be disappointed in a single thing at this amazing, extremely well appointed cabin in the little oasis of Luray when you checkin to unwind, unplug and get away from it all!! The kitchen was about the best stocked one I have ever had at a cabin rental, the some was super clean and well decorated/furnished both inside and on the very spacious and inviting screened back porch (HUGE plus to not have to fight the bugs or be burning candles/thermacells every time you want to be outside for a bit) where we ate ALL our meals to soak up as much relaxing views and sounds as we could during our stay. We will definitely be back and Jan and her husband were fantastic, hands on, communicative owners and renters and it was a pleasure working with them as well.

This was our second year at Sweetwater and we plan to return again next year. It's a wonderful, well equipped cottage located on a beautiful, gentle river. The grandchildren and the dogs loved playing in the river every single day. We enjoyed relaxing in the screen porch, watching the birds and savoring the quiet.

This is our second year vacationing at Sweetwater - we love this property! It’s very peaceful and we love that so many river toys are included - we spent time on the river every day! We had bad storms one evening and quickly found lanterns for emergency use - they have thought of everything (the lights only flickered - thank goodness!). We saw so many cool animals from the property - many cranes, herons, orioles, rabbits, deer, and even a large snapping turtle right by the concrete steps into the river! My daughter had blast “fishing” for the many crayfish from the steps (we used pieces of hot dog on a string, put the crayfish in a bowl to observe, and then set them free). It is a wonderful place for a family vacation!

Cottage was perfect, location was perfect. Can’t wait to return!

Sweetwater Cottage is such a peaceful oasis. Being right on the river was so relaxing and the screened porch allowed us to enjoy the view and sounds with our morning coffee and evening wine. The cottage was spotless. The kitchen was stocked with utensils, appliances and spice. We loved the location for we enjoyed privacy at the cottage and were an easy 30 minute drive to downtown Luray We especially were grateful to bring our rescue beagle Bella with us. Thank you Jan and John for sharing your cottage with us.

The Sweetwater Cottage is located right on the Shenandoah River and you have access to canoes and kayaks! Be sure to have car racks and two cars as the River is quick moving and you will need to drop in and pick up further down river. The kitchen was newly renovated and well stocked! We cooked all of our meals at the cottage. There are trails along the river to hike (accessible for kids under 10) and through the woods which we enjoyed with our dog! It’s not overly populated so we were able to enjoy nature and bring our dog too (she isn’t dog friendly so I was worried about a ton of other dogs- we didn’t see anyone else so it all worked out). Nice fire pit to enjoy and household amenities. We want to come back when it’s warmer to really enjoy the river. Thank you Sweetwater Cottage for a great Getaway!

We love the place and it’s location, on Shenandoah riverside. It has everything you need to relax or go canoeing, kayaking or tubing and even fishing. We mainly relaxed with the family. We only stayed for the weekend, if we would had stayed longer we would enjoy all the above. We’re definitely planning to come back for a longer stay next time.

Jan and John were very easy to deal with and made the whole check in process easy and fast. The house was really nice and we really enjoyed sitting on the porch and looking out over the water. We really enjoyed the entire weekend and glad we were able to find this place.

Our family, 2 adults 3 kids and one dog, loved our stay on the river. The kids loved the swing and the movie collection and the canoes. The screened porch is fun for family board games and dinners. Tip: don’t try tubing if the water level is low. Will definitely book again.
