Nous avons passé dix jours à Jass Villa et nous avons adoré ! Tout d'abord Tobias, le propriétaire, a toujours été réactif et à répondu à toutes mes interrogations. Ensuite sur place, Issa le majordome était totalement disponible et nous a permis d'organiser toutes nos sorties et nos déplacements dans les meilleures conditions. Amina est venue faire le ménage tous les deux jours, toujours souriante et très agréable. Nous avons également pu lui commander un massage qu'elle est venue faire avec sa mère. Mubarak nous a également préparé un très bon repas de crudités et de fruits de mer. La villa offre un confort simple mais elle est extraordinairement placée face à la mer et la vue depuis la terrasse est tout simplement magique. On ne se lasse pas de ces magnifiques couleurs, changeantes au gré des heures et le temps là bas paraît suspendu. Jambiani est un village authentique, où l'on côtoie la population et les gens sont très sympathiques. Les enfants sont joyeux et malgré la pauvreté évidente de la population, il y règne une véritable douceur de vivre. Vous trouverez tout à proximité de la villa : le village et ses épiceries (faites le plein de fruits : ils sont délicieux !), des bars et restaurants le long de la plage, mais aussi dans le village, et bien sûr la mer qui se retire parfois très loin (en tenir compte pour les baignades).
Bref, vacances inoubliables dans un lieu magique !

Eine herrliches Haus zum Relaxen
Die Villa befindet sich in bester Lage in Jambiani . Der große Balkon ist das Highligt. Das Geschehen am Strand und Meer läßt sich wunderbar beobachten.
Bei Flut kann man gut schwimmen.
Wenn man Fragen hat, sei es für die Küche, für Souveniere, Ausflüge, etc., ist man bei Issa, dem Housemanager bestens aufgehoben.
Wir möchten die Zeit in Jambiani nicht missen.

Paradise perfected!
In 60 years I have had the privilege to travel all over the world however, I have never been to such a place as Jass Villa in Jambiani!
At high tide you are 10 metres from the Indian Ocean and its warm crystal clear waters..... a long coral sand beach finishes a a palm fringed paradise.
If you are looking for thumping music ...wild night clubs and the general high life... don't go to this place ...HOWEVER, if you want to unwind ...chill out and find a truly authentic experience where people matter more than trying to rob your pockets , the this is the place for you.
The villa, a modest, plainly furnished but very comfortable house right on the beach is THE most idyllic spot to unwind. Four good sized bedrooms (with very comfortable beds), two bathrooms and kitchen and dining area, make for all you need for your holiday.
The villa is owned by Tobias... who lives in Sweden incidentally! In all my dealings Tobias was superb, quickly answering any of my queries and accommodating a date change at short notice too( Thanks Tobias). The house is managed in country by Issa.
All I can say is that Issa is fantastic.... nothing was too much trouble for him. From arranging the pick up at the airport to booking trips and even a chef to come in and cook for us.... he made the holiday! Thanks Issa.
Within two hundred metres of the house you will find 3 or 4 really laid back bars/restaurants.... immediately to your left and right there is ZanziStar (a very very laid back beach bar ) and White sands ( a small villa/ hotel with a pleasant deck and restaurant). Immediately behind the is Hassan's Restaurant and just a little further away there is the Zanzistar Banana Garden Restaurant)
All of these spots serve good food and a selection of drinks... Don't however, think that there will be loud music and hundreds of people stampeding past your door on there way to these friendly and very worthwhile hostelries... on the contrary soothing quiet music is some times heard from the restaurants whilst you are there but apart from that the sea breaking on the shore or the distant rumble of the ocean breaking on the reef some 5 kms out , is all you will hear!
Jambiani village is very real and authentic and the people so friendly! You will soon pick up a few words of Swahili that will help you navigate around. For those of you who have not been to Africa before please don't go with the idea of supermarkets and super shops..... this is Zanzibar and it isn't like that here. As you walk through the village you will meet loads of fascinated and really friendly children and people just going about their daily business. There are an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables served from small hole-in -the -wall shops and dimly lit rooms .... it is all good stuff even if it looks different or doesn't have the fancy packaging!
Oh by the way top tip... bring a bag to take your veggies home in...preferably a reusable one... the Zanzibar Government have introduced a law to ban plastic bags.... Well done guys!
There is a bakers as well but be quick the fresh bread disappears very quickly!!
Couple of things to note ... Zanzibar is predominantly a Muslim nation. They are very tolerant of western culture of drinking and wearing very little on the beach ( though topless or nude bathing is not allowed). That said when walking through the village with local people going about their business, it is advisable and more over respectful for ladies to cover their bikinis and dress a little more modestly. Locals will be far more receptive if you respect their space!
We traveled all over the island by hire car ... again thank you Issa! There are the bug hotels up in the North around Nungwi and very nice they are too when you have got behind the high , stockade type fence that seal you off from the real world and the local people... not my thing but there if you want it ...
If you feel adventurous you can travel by local bus......it is an experience but I guarantee you won't forget it! You will make new friends and acquaintances I am sure!!
Stone town is worth a visit but there is a lot to see... if I was to do it again I would stay one night in the city so that the tours could be at a more leisurely pace.... still a fascinating and dramatic place to go!!
Leaving Jambiani was one of the hardest things I have had to do... but with my partner we will certainly return to this little spot of heaven on earth!! Thank you Tobias for letting us stay and a special thanks to Issa and his sister Amena, for the wonderful support during the best holiday I have ever had!

Wow! :-) Thanks Dave and Linday for the wonderful and exhaustive review of your stay! Even though I'm a bit more modest I share your opinions and I usually describe the place in a similar way when someone ask about it. It's a bit hard to imagine how it is when you haven't been there. Africa is so distant for most people and although the journey might be long it's very accessible these days and I encourage everyone to visit at least once in their lifetime. We live in a world with many differences and even though you go for a holiday and to have a good time I believe that it's important to see other cultures and in this case how it is to live in a developing country. Although Zanzibar is better off then many other African countries you can see poverty on your doorstep. People are not starving though but it's far from the luxurious and secure life we live in Europe and NA. The life in Zanzibar is authentic. People live the way they have always done. In Jambiani there are no motor boats, no jet skis and even no sun beds.
I agree with everything you write. The place is strictly for relaxing and to unwind. For sure it's a paradise. Maybe one of the least explored places in the world and I hope it will stay that way for a long time. Now when winter is approaching here in Sweden there is no place Id rather be then on the terrace of Jass Villa overlooking the endless Indian Ocean. I hope you can make it there again. You are always welcome!

Le paradis
Une villa de rêve, idéalement située sur une plage paradisiaque (tant à marée haute qu’a marée basse) une vue à couper le souffle avec en fond sonore les vagues sur la barrière de corail. Ameublement succinct mais suffisant, les lits king size sont confortables et tous équipés de moustiquaires.
Très bon accueil, ponctuel.
Issa (responsable de la villa) est sympathique, présent .. en toute discrétion, toujours à l'écoute, il accompagne les hôtes pour la logistique les excursions et les besoins divers.
Une mention particulière pour le cuisinier Mubarak qui prépare d’excellents repas et toujours avec le sourire à des prix plus que raisonnables.
Un excellent séjour.

Tolle Unterkunft direkt am Strand!!
Dank Isaa dem Hausverwalter und der tollen Unterkunft,
hatten wir die schönste Reise unseres Lebens!! Isaa hat uns dank der Vermittlung von Ausflügen mit Einheimischen aus seinem Ort, unvergessliche Urlaubsmomente geschenkt!! Vielen Dank an Isaa und dem zuverlässigen Hausbesitzer Tobias. Alles war perfekt!!! Die Unterkunft ist genauso wie auf den Fotos. Wir würden sehr gerne wieder kommen!!

Always a pleasure
It’s our second time staying at the villa and we loved it even more. Issa the house manger is an amazing guy, could not do enough for us. From buying beers and making sure we had fruits, arranging transport etc, everything was done to very professional standard and nothing was left to chance. Then there is the Chef Mubarack, all I can say is wow. The octopus was cooked to perfection and still makes my mouth water and who knew you could have fish Samosas. I could go on about the delicious food but all you need to know is you will not be disappointed. All the best meals we had in Zanzibar were cooked at Jess villa. The villa itself is avarage but very clean and deck upstairs is my favourite part of the villa and because of it I can’t stay anywhere else. Jambiani is very safe and we slept with our door open for the breeze. The traders are also very polite, once you kindly decline they will leave you alone unfortunately you will have to kindly decline to a lot of them as they are a small handful (all very nice enterprising guys).
Like I said Jess Villa is average but combined with the location, amazing food and service it’s a 10 out of 10 from us. It’s worth getting up at 6 am to see the sunrise.

Our favourite place
Our favourite place in Jambiani! In our 2,5 months stay in Zanzibar we spent around 6 weeks here and couldn’t think of a better location. The ocean panorama in front of you, the cool breeze, the best local restaurant just behind, sports activities in the evenings on the beach. What better TV can you have than this view? The caretaker here is Issa and he will do everything to make your stay pleasant. Just a few improvements of the facilities and the house would be the perfect place. We are coming back for sure!

Wspaniały pobyt i relaksująca atmosfera.
Wyjątkowe miejsce oraz przemiła obsługa. Manager Issa jest wspaniałą i pomocną osobą. Kucharz na miejscu przygotowywuje pyszne afrykańskie dania. Internet działa bardzo dobrze. Chill, chill, chill..!!

Fantastic vacation
We actually stayed in August 2017 and had an amazing time. Isa was the best and our kids still talk about how much they loved how he showed us around. We wish we could go back and think of the time there fondly. Worked wonderfully for our family of 5! Thanks!

Fantástica estancia!!
Mi chico y yo nos alojamos en Jass Villa por 5 noches este mismo mes de septiembre. Nos pareció absolutamente confortable y perfectamente ubicado. Además de contar con dos baños y cuatro habitaciones, la parte más destacada es la zona de la terraza. Completamente al aire libre, con varias hamacas para tomar el sol y con el mar de frente. Amanecer y atardecer alli es una gozada. Nos sentimos muy cómodos y como en casa todo el tiempo. Cuenta con varios chiringuitos alrededor para comer pescado fresco y las caminatas en la playa y el baño en la misma es un placer. Sin duda volveremos. Gracias a Haji y Tobias por su atención!!!!
